Crafting gear in Monster Hunter Wilds is simple, but not quite as easy as it sounds. In many cases, players will likely find themselves out of rare monster materials like Wyvern Gems, and unfortunately, a ton of endgame gear needs Wyvern Gems as part of their crafting recipes.

Getting Wyvern Gems is going to be a pain for many players (as is tradition in the series), but luckily, there are a couple of ways to make this grind a bit more bearable. This guide covers where players can get Wyvern Gems once players reach High Rank in MH Wilds.

MH Wilds Balahara Drops

Players can get Wyvern Gems as rewards from quests or as drops from certain monster like the Balahara. For players who want to farm Wyvern Gems, then hunting monsters is going to be the most reliable way.

The problem with farming Wyvern Gems is their horrendously low drop rate. These typically have a 3% chance of dropping as an end-of-quest reward, and each carve you make from a slain monster has an ~8% chance of dropping a Wyvern Gem. Monsters that drop this rare material include:

  • Hirabami
  • Gravios
  • Quematrice
  • Balahara
  • Rompopolo

You can see what materials drop from monsters by checking the Large Monster Field Guide in the pause menu.

Completing Investigations

Instead of farming monsters via Optional Quests, it’s often better to fight them during Investigations instead. An Investigation is a hunt started by directly approaching a monster roaming the open world or pinning them as targets on the map screen.

The good thing about Investigations is they have a list of guaranteed rewards, and this can include Wyvern Gems. If you ever see any of the monsters listed above roaming a region, open your map and check what rewards you can get from hunting them.

Using Lucky Vouchers

MH Wilds Lucky Voucher Prompt

You can use Lucky Vouchers in Monster Hunter Wilds to increase your odds of getting rare materials like Wyvern Gems. Before you depart for a quest, you can choose to use a voucher from the quest menu. Alternatively, you can use one right when you encounter a monster by pressing the button that appears on your screen.

As much as possible, try to cut off a monster’s tail if you’re using a bladed weapon. Tails give everyone in the team one extra carve, and it’s possible to get other monster parts from it.
