The studio (now Blizzard Albany) deserves better after doing a fantastic job with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2.
Aside from the apparent confirmation that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4’s campaign would be “streamlined”, the reveal was mostly a great one that was only made better by the reveal that Doom is coming back to the series through the Digital Deluxe release. Doomguy originally appeared in THPS 3, but now his rebooted incarnation is back to raise hell alongside one of the series’ Revenants.
You Can Doot With The Revenant In Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4
Shortly after the reveal of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, a trailer was shared for the Doom crossover content, which reveals a banging big band version of the Doom theme, some skater apparel, and Doomguy and the Revenant as skaters. The Slayer has some great special tricks, including one where he uses a chainsaw to skate, but the Revenant takes the cake.
As you can see in the clip shared by the Doom account above, the Revenant has two special tricks that we know of so far. One is fairly standard and sees them casting a fireball, while the other has them pulling out a trumpet and playing a quick tune on it, which is a nice nod to the series’ iconic “doot” meme.
For those that don’t know, the “doot” meme originated some time before Doom with a skeleton sprite holding a trumpet and saying “doot doot”. The skeleton’s design was then compared to the Revenant close to Doom’s launch, which led to plenty of memes about the enemy also going “doot”.
Over the years, id has embraced the meme and even played along with it through skins and in-game music. The reference has come full circle now, with doot basically becoming a part of the Revenant’s character through meme osmosis, which explains why it’s part of their special tricks set in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.
