The Last Of Us Director Says Not To Bet On Part 3 Happening

During a recent interview regarding The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO, Neil Druckmann said not to “bet” on there being more games in the series and that the show “could be it”.

Without a doubt, The Last of Us is one of the most far-reaching and influential gaming series of the past few console generations. Both games were massive (if controversial) hits, while the HBO series has been received as one of the best gaming adaptations of all time. With that in mind, it seems obvious that more from the series is being considered.

Earlier today, Variety released an interview focusing on Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us, which involved chatting to showrunner Craig Mazin and game director Neil Druckmann. While the interview is mostly centred around the new season of the show and all it entails (including some not so subtle references to that scene), there is a tidbit in there about Part 3.
Towards the end of the interview, Variety asks Neil Druckmann about The Last of Us Part 3 and whether there’s any news to share there. Although Druckmann was never going to just announce Part 3 out of nowhere anyway, he takes the time to basically shut the idea down and keep everyone’s expectations low.
Druckmann said that he knew the question was coming at some point in the interview
