Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest entry in Capcom’s long-running action RPG series, and it changes things up a bit. For example, the addition of AI-assisted hunters for players who don’t want to engage with online participants is a big plus. On the downside, fans eager to see their favorite Palico chefs will be disappointed, as Monster Hunter Wilds players now have to cook for themselves.

It’s easier now more than ever to play this series alone, so here are some tips for the latest entry.
There are three tiers of cooking in the game. First, there are Rations, consisting of either Meat, Fish, or Veggies. Individually, these Rations will increase a random stat or two, but all meals will increase HP by 50 and Stamina by 150. Players can include Additional Ingredients and Finishing Touches to their meals to create interesting combos. Let’s rank some of the better dishes to prepare in the game, ranked by the usefulness of their stat boosts.
7
Meat + Droolshroom
A Meal Fit For Heavy Weapon Users
- Attack +2
- Black Belt Meal: Drain Less Stamina
Meat will always boost attack power, which needs no explanation in an action RPG. The Additional Ingredient, Droolshroom, will bestow the Black Belt Meal skill to the player, which will essentially drain less stamina when using certain attacks.
The heavier weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds, like Hammers and Great Swords, will drain more stamina from their special attacks. That’s why every opportunity to increase the stamina gauge or decrease stamina usage is a plus. There is a better version of the Droolshroom called the Delishroom, which will make the Black Belt Meal skill more potent.
6
Fish + Mud Shrimp
An Under The Sea Fricassee
- Defense +4
- Tumbler Meal: Evade Further With Each Roll
Fish is a Ration that will significantly boost Defense. Adding a little more seafood to the dish via Mud Shrimp will bestow the Tumbler Meal skill. This will increase the evade distance of dodge rolls.

The best way to dodge an enemy is to wait until the last second, which will create a boost away from the attack, almost as if players have jet boots equipped like another Capcom character, Mega Man. There is a better version of Mud Shrimp called Turbid Shrimp, which will make dodging distances even greater.
5
Meat + Fluffy Egg
A Boost For All Attackers Out There
- Attack +2
- Caprice Meal: Random Boosts To Attack While Meal Effect Is In Place
Getting back to Meat, this recipe combines it with Fluffy Eggs. These tasty morsels will add the skill Caprice Meal to the mix, which will boost Attack power even further, but only at random intervals.
The total time that this recipe should last is 50 minutes, so attack power could be boosted over a dozen times, or it could be boosted once. It’s a gamble, but one well worth taking for players who prefer offense over defense, and the potency can be increased with the Airy Egg variant.
4
Veggies + Kunafa Cheese
A Dense Defense
- Defense +2, Element Resistances +3
- Defender Meal: Random Boosts To Defense While Meal Effect Is In Place
Veggies in Monster Hunter Wilds will boost defense and elemental resistances, of which there are five. Adding Kunafa Cheese will add the Defender Meal skill, which acts similarly to the Caprice Meal bonus, only instead of attack power, the hunter’s defense can be increased randomly during the meal’s duration.
There is a sharper version of the cheese that can increase the rate of these boosts as well. As a random aside, it’s quite funny to see the animation for this meal, as it looks like iceberg lettuce with cheese melted on top. Is that a popular dish in Japanese cuisine?
3
Veggies + Kunafa Cheese + Wild Herb
Resisting The Effects Of Monsters
- Defense +2, Element Resistances +3
- Defender Meal: Random Boosts To Defense While Meal Effect Is In Place
- Immunizer Meal: Lessens The Effects Of Various Ailments
This is a repeat of the last meal with a slight twist to the final ingredient. Wild Herb is considered a Finishing Touch ingredient. It will add the Immunizer Meal skill, which will make status ailments less effective on players during combat.
One monster that can bestow a bevy of status effects is Congalala, who is a big pink evil monkey just waiting to fart and burp on players. It can cause Paralysis, Poison, and Stench, but a meal like this could effectively prevent those effects from harming players for very long.
2
Veggies + Kunafa Cheese + Eastern Honey
Adding A Bit Of Sweetness
- Defense +2, Element Resistances +3
- Defender Meal: Random Boosts To Defense While Meal Effect Is In Place
- Medic Meal: Heal More
This is another twist on the Veggies and Kunafa Cheese meal, this time adding the Finishing Touch of Eastern Honey. This will add the Medic Meal skill to the dish, which will make healing items more effective in Monster Hunter Wilds.

It’s still not a completely easy game, but these changes are for the better.
A Mega Potion, for example, could recover more HP with this Meal Skill. It’s not specified in the description, but this can also include healing received from bugs like the Vigorwasp or spells cast from Hunting Horns in Monsters Hunter Wilds.
1
Meat + Sild Garlic
A Saving Garlic Grace
- Attack +2
- Moxie Meal: Revive Once Per Meal
Let’s dial things back a bit to a more simplified meat-based dish. Sild Garlic will add the Moxie Meal skill to the Meat dish, which will revive a player once. A way to revive automatically in an RPG is a great skill to have, which is why it shoots this meal way to the top of this list.
There is also a Specialty version of Sild Garlic which will grant the player more HP upon revival. Why pair a defensive-based skill with Meat, which boosts attack, instead of the other two defensive rations? With a guaranteed revival, players can afford to be more risky, which is why Meat makes more sense over Fish or Veggies.
