Some Unanswered Loose Ends In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is an undeniably massive game with a story that can be stretched over 100 hours. With how long the core narrative is, it’s no wonder that by the end of the story, not every thread set up has a neat conclusion.

These achievements are the most difficult you’ll encounter in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

A third entry in the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series is nowhere near official confirmation, so thanks to how much is set up in the second game, there’s a chance that some of the questions it poses won’t be answered for years to come. But what are the biggest mysteries after finishing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2?

Will Henry And Erik Settle Their Score?

If You Chose To Duel Him, That Is

Right before the climactic siege of Suchdol that closes out the story of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Kubyenka is revealed to have survived the previous mission and arrives at Suchdol with a message from Erik.

Erik challenges Henry to a duel at the former campsite of Sigismund’s forces, seeking revenge for the death of his lover (and former archnemesis of Henry’s), Istvan Toth. You can choose to ignore this demand, but if you show up, you’ll be faced with one of the hardest one-on-one fights in the game. Unfortunately, a victorious Henry doesn’t get the chance to finish the (frankly unhinged) Erik off, as he notices Sigismund’s forces approaching Suchdol to start the siege. With how much attention the rivalry between Erik and Henry is given throughout the sequel, and the clear cliffhanger their dynamic is left on, we can only hope that the pair get to reunite to finally settle the score.

Are Henry’s Parents Proud Of Him?

The True Ending

KCD2 Henry Looking At His Parents Leaving

Part of what makes Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 so enjoyable is how much choice Henry has in what he can do and the different paths he can follow. You might feel like you’re making all of these choices without any judgment, but by the end, it’s revealed that a certain pair was watching every moment.

In the final moments before the credits, Henry has a dream where his deceased parents either hound or praise Henry for the decisions he’s made throughout his journey. Some of these decisions are more clear, like whether he chose to duel Istvan Toth honorably, or simply assassinate him. But others, like how much Henry stole from different people, feel a bit unfair for his parents to judge, given his dire circumstances for most of the game.

If you balanced honor and dishonor, you’re given the chance to apologize, and you can still get the good ending where Henry’s parents are proud, but if you’re too far gone, their pride in their son is irreparably tarnished. Whichever of these endings ends up being canon will drastically alter Henry’s arc in any potential sequels. Henry is shown to wrestle with guilt throughout the game, and whether he’s absolved of this or not, will change where his character is emotionally at the start of a new story.

Which Romance Was Real?

Can The Love Continue Into A Sequel?

Henry can remain completely chaste throughout the entirety of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and this is a popular option for those who are attached to Theresa, the love interest from the first game. However, if you didn’t romance Theresa in the prior title, or your Henry is just feeling unfaithful, you can denounce Theresa quite early on in the story and instead pursue the other romances in the sequel.

Who has your heart?

Henry’s adventure will give him the opportunity for a few one-off flings with a handful of side characters, but there are also five more detailed recurring romances throughout the rest of the story. While Klara and Margaret, unfortunately, don’t have much bearing on the main story, Rosa Ruthard, Katherine, and most obviously Hans Capon, are all much more important to the core narrative. Depending on whom you romanced, it’ll be interesting to see if any of these storylines would be continued into a sequel.

While characters like Rosa and Katherine could understandably be missing from a future title, a character like Hans is a little harder to ignore. What’s most likely is that the romance would be treated a little like Theresa, where you can lock yourself into continuing early on or make dialogue choices to confirm that Henry didn’t romance Hans in the previous game.

Near the end of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, during a discussion between Hans and Henry, it’s mentioned that the pair are choosing to stay in the Kuttenberg region for a while before Hans needs to return home to Rattay.

While this could easily be a throwaway line to contextualize why Henry respawns at the Devil’s Den with free rein to explore after the credits roll, it could also be a hint at where the series could take these characters in future titles. Even though there is plenty of potential for continuing on in Kuttenberg and potentially the Trosky region too, the most popular theory is that a third title would take place in Prague. Given how often it’s mentioned throughout the game, and how interesting such a sprawling settlement would be to explore, we want to know.

How Close Will Warhorse Stick To History Going Forward?

Historical Events Can’t Be Ignored

Predicting where the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series will go moving forwards is a little easier than it would be for more fictional titles since this setting is grounded in history. While developers Warhorse Studios have reiterated that they’re more dedicated to creating a fun game rather than a complete dedication to historical accuracy, the main events and some characters are still based in the real world.

One of the most relevant examples of this is the introduction of Jan Zizka as an enemy-turned-ally, who just so happens to be an important military leader in Czech history. Given where the sequel concludes, Zizka’s story is far from over, so it’ll be interesting to see how often this incredibly historically-relevant character overlaps with Henry’s next adventure.

Which weapon type should you use in KCD2?

Hans is informed of this much later by his uncle Hanush, and even if you didn’t romance him as Henry, he’s clearly not pleased with the situation. In a private conversation between the confidants, Hans tells Henry that he’ll just pretend to be sick when he’s called for the ceremony. While this flawed plan seems semi-feasible as a future side quest, looking at history, we know that the real person Hans is based on will eventually get married (whether he was happy is another question altogether).

Even so, we know that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is not completely dedicated to historical accuracy, especially with Hans specifically. While he’s supposed to be only 15 at the time the game is set, that’s clearly not the case, so a potential wedding escape plotline is still in the cards.

Which Choices Were Canon?

Semine Flourishing? Brabant Dead? Samuel Alive?

Samuel pouting in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Henry is given plenty of choices throughout the story of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and while you might not be aware of their consequences right away, for some, it’s obvious. Some of these choices will only impact the ending Henry gets, but others will drastically impact the direction of Henry’s arc going past the sequel.

One of the most obvious choices is whether Henry chooses to allow the raid on Semine to happen when he’s working with Von Bergow, since, depending on this, the town of Semine will either be flourishing or completely destroyed.

Closer to the end of the story, Henry will also have the choice to spare the traitorous Vaquelin Brabant or save his half-brother Samuel (both are possible but very hard to do in the same run). The survival of either of these characters will massively impact the future of Henry’s story, with his relationship with Samuel having room for more development and Brabant surviving, meaning that Henry has another villain running free that will likely catch up with him.
