Summary
- Rise of Hydra is still aiming to release this year, according to Black Panther voice actor Khary Payton.
- Black Panther, Captain America, Gabriel Jones (Howling Commandos) and Nanali (Wakandan Spy Network) will all be playable.
- We’ve not seen much of the game so far.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is another one of those games, like Insomniac’s Wolverine and Arkane’s Blade, that was announced to great fanfare, but we haven’t actually seen a lot of. However, unlike the other two, Rise of Hydra is scheduled to release within the next 9 months. Although a lack of gameplay trailers usually means a delay is on the way, Black Panther voice actor Khary Payton has suggested Rise of Hydra is still releasing this year.
Speaking to The Direct at MultiCon, Payton suggested Rise of Hydra would be ready for the holiday period. “We’re still working. We’re planning on 2025… we’re thinking like a Christmas situation, but I’m so excited,” Payton reportedly said. Rise of Hydra received a story trailer in March 2024, depicting a tense relationship between Black Panther and Captain America set during the backdrop of World War 2. The trailer concluded with “Coming 2025”, a deadline that developer Skydance New Media is still aiming to meet.
Rise of Hydra Still Set to Release This Year
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is the debut project of Skydance New Media, a studio founded by Amy Hennig, best known for her work with Naughty Dog on the Uncharted series. Rise of Hydra is being written by Hennig and Marc Bernardin, a comic book writer.
In addition to Captain America and Black Panther, Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos and Nanali of the Wakandan Spy Network will also be playable. Payton’s iteration of Black Panther is Azurri, the father of T’Chaka and grandfather of T’Challa. The premise of Rise of Hydra involves Azurri forming an uneasy alliance with Steve Rogers to foil the terrorist organisation Hydra.
Hennig released concept art for Rise of Hydra in December, showing a brief look at Wakanda in the 1940s. Wakanda during this period is even more secretive than what is depicted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the country’s very existence a secret from most of the world.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set to release sometime in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
