Summary
- Pokemon TCG Pocket players are frustrated with the current Pack Points system, as each booster pack has its own separate Pack Points.
- Players want Pack Points to be universal and shared across all booster packs, making it easier to obtain missing cards from each set.
Pokemon TCG Pocket players want changes made to the game’s Pack Points system. Initially, Pack Points were seen as a generally acceptable way to get a few cards a player was missing to complete a set or a deck. As new boosters have been released, however, it has become gradually harder to accumulate points. Some Pokemon TCG Pocket players are voicing their frustration with the system and are hoping that the developers will introduce changes.
Since its launch at the end of October 2024, millions of players have downloaded Pokemon TCG Pocket. At release, the card game featured the Genetic Apex pack with three variants, totaling 226 cards overall, not counting rares. In December, developers DeNA and Creatures Inc. released the first expansion pack, Mythical Island, with 68 new cards. At the end of January, the second major expansion, Space-Time Smackdown, added 155 brand-new cards to the game, and less than a month later, the third booster, Triumphant Light, brought yet another 75 cards, making things even harder for free-to-play players looking to complete all base collections.

The Triumphant Light pack has a lot of great Pokemon cards for TCG Pocket players.
One way to complete decks would be by investing Pack Points earned after opening a booster pack. However, as many players have pointed out, the current Pack Points system is flawed, and they want to see a change. Each booster pack opened grants five Pack Points, which can be used to buy a card, with prices ranging from 35 for the most basic rarity up to 500 for an EX Pokemon or even up to 2,500 for a golden EX card. The problem is that each booster pack has its own separate Pack Points, making the system somewhat obsolete, as players rarely return to older packs with so many new ones being released.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Want Pack Points to Be Universal Among Boosters
On Reddit, many players say they want Pack Points to be universal and shared across all booster packs. This way, even if they continue opening the latest packs, they will still accumulate enough points to complete older collections, encouraging a healthier gameplay style and reducing the predatory FOMO pressure on players. While Pokemon TCG Pocket recently added the trade feature to the game, it has several limitations since it requires extra resources for every card traded.
The other system for acquiring cards, Wonder Pick, is also hurt by the rapid addition of new boosters. The odds of a missing card showing up in Wonder Pick are slim, as other players might be splitting their attention trying to collect a missing card from an old booster or slowly accumulating the necessary Pack Points to buy one. If the developers decide to change the system and make Pack Points a shared resource across all boosters, it could help free-to-play Pokemon TCG Pocket players complete the base collection without buying Gold or subscribing to the Premium Pass.
