Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper Glasses Review

Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper Glasses Review

I work on a computer, I play video games for work and for fun, I watch movies and TV daily, and spend too much time scrolling through my phone. Nearly every waking moment of my life is spent staring at a screen, and so, it’s really no surprise that I sometimes struggle with eye strain. Despite this, I’ve never really used blue light glasses. The Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper glasses mark the first time I’ve used blue light glasses for any significant period of time. After spending about a week with the Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper glasses, I’m convinced of the benefits and will continue using blue light glasses on a daily basis.

The Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper glasses come in a small black pouch adorned with Reaper’s masked face and the GUNNAR logo. Inside the pouch are the glasses themselves and a microfiber cloth that also features Reaper’s likeness. The glasses themselves are sturdy, with a matte black finish, silver Reaper logos, and in the case of our pair, amber lenses. Sunglasses are also available, as are prescription lenses. Both the standard amber lenses and sunglasses cost $69, though prescription lenses will raise the price quite a bit, as expected. Still, the Overwatch 2 GUNNAR Reaper glasses are a high-quality build for a relatively low price.

The Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper Glasses Help Block Blue Light

The primary purpose of blue light glasses is to reduce eye strain for people that spend a lot of time staring at screens. I used the glasses while working, gaming, and watching TV for extended, multi-hour sessions. The glasses were comfortable the entire time, to the point where, like any good pair of glasses, there would be times when I didn’t feel them on my face. The lenses certainly did their job of blocking blue light and seemed to reduce eye strain. The Overwatch 2 GUNNAR Reaper glasses do exactly as promised and are easy to recommend to anyone that spends a lot of time staring at screens.

Now, some users may take some time to get used to the slight color changes that inevitably come with wearing blue light glasses. The tint on the Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper glasses is said to block 65% of blue light, and that protection does make certain colors look a little different, particularly whites, giving them a yellowish-orange hue. Luckily, that is something that is easy to adjust to, and there is no serious discoloration to the point that it’s distracting or impacts one’s enjoyment of anything. I tested the glasses when playing Overwatch 2 on a gaming monitor, playing Monster Hunter Wilds on a 4K TV, and watching Cobra Kai on my phone with no issues. Still, there will be those that can’t stand the slight color change, and so potential customers should keep that in mind.

The best use I’ve gotten out of the Overwatch 2 X GUNNAR Reaper glasses came from playing Pokemon TCG Pocket. It’s become a nightly routine to open my daily Pokemon TCG Pocket booster packs, select my wonder picks, and claim my rewards before bed. The problem is Pokemon TCG Pocket doesn’t have a dark mode, so the screen can be rather blinding. The Reaper glasses definitely helped alleviate eye strain while playing Pokemon TCG Pocket, offering a temporary solution until the game eventually adds dark mode – assuming that ever happens, of course.

Reaper Fans May Want to Consider Picking These Up

GUNNAR is a trusted brand for good reason, and rest assured that the Overwatch 2 Reaper glasses are yet another quality product from the company. But if there was one downside to the GUNNAR Overwatch 2 Reaper glasses, it is that they are not very stylish, with some clash between the amber-color lenses and the frames. These aren’t glasses that people are going to necessarily want to be wearing out and about, even if they are diehard Overwatch 2 fanatics. The sunglasses variant look like an improvement, with the dark lenses blending better with the black frames. Having Reaper’s insignia on the side of the frames will be a selling point for Reaper mains, and they make a great gift for fans of the popular Damage hero, but general Overwatch 2 fans may not be quite as interested.

For at-home use, the GUNNAR Overwatch 2 Reaper glasses are great. As someone that spends nearly every waking moment staring at a screen, the glasses genuinely offered some relief for my eyes. And even if hardcore Overwatch 2 Reaper fans don’t have a need for blue light glasses, they may still want to pick them up as a collectible if nothing else.
