Summary
- Monster Hunter Wilds is easily the most approachable game in the series to date.
- With that in mind, veterans really don’t like the existence of a mod that adds health bars for monsters.
- Fans argue that all the information is already there in the game, and using the mod takes away most of the point.
Monster Hunter veterans are almost unanimously in agreement that a health bar mod for Wilds‘ Monsters is totally unnecessary and not something that even newcomers should use.
As the continuously staggering Steam numbers have proved time and time again over the last few days, Monster Hunter Wilds is already one of the biggest launches of 2025. While most of those players are undoubtedly Monster Hunter veterans who were sold on day one, it’s fair to assume that a decent portion of that playerbase is brand-new to the series.

Making cool hats from the corpses of monsters isn’t without its ethical quandaries.
After all, this was clearly Capcom’s intention with Wilds, which tones down the difficulty in a number of areas and adds some more streamlined mechanics, such as Focus Mode and the Seikret. Those new players seem like they’re in for a much simpler time than other games in the series, but that hasn’t stopped veterans from giving one key piece of advice.
Monster Hunter Fans Really Don’t Think The Health Bar Mod Needs To Exist
That advice is very specific – don’t install the mod that adds health bars for the game’s Monsters. When Monster Hunter Wilds launched, the floodgates opened for the modding community, who have already done some very cool stuff with the game. One example of this is Nexus Mods creator GreenComfyTea’s health bar mod.
As the name implies, this mod adds a simple health bar for monsters that shows how much damage they’ve taken. Sounds innocent enough, right? Well, that isn’t the case at all, as Monster Hunter fans have recently been up in arms over the mod and recommending that newcomers to the game don’t streamline the game even more by installing it.
The main reason for this annoyance is because Monster Hunter Wilds already gives you all the information that you need when it comes to a Monster’s health. Not only is there a heartbeat monitor that makes it clear, but each monster shows the damage they’ve taken by moving slower, having visible wounds, and even dribbling. There’s even a marker that pops up when they’re especially low health.
While I agree that Wilds doesn’t need a health bar mod, it’s cool that someone has already got one working. And hey, it’s up to you how you play at the end of the day.
Considering how core a mechanic it is to keep an eye on the Monster you’re hunting and see how close they are to death as you slowly wear them down, most fans think it’s a step too far for a game that’s already making things simpler. The responses to a post from PC Gamer sharing the mod are almost unanimously negative and recommending that players stay far away.
