Monster Hunter Wilds: Doshaguma Guide

Monster Hunter Wilds: Doshaguma Guide

Doshaguma is a Fanged Beast in Monster Hunter Wilds that can prove a challenge for most players in the early game. You’ll first encounter it in the story mission “Pinnacle of the Pack,” where you have to fight the Alpha Doshaguma in a changing environment in Windward Plains. At one point, a Balahara joins the fray and creates a quicksand trap to topple the towering beast.

After finishing the story mission, you’ll be able to talk to Alma, your handler, to initiate optional quests to slay the Doshaguma. This will let you farm Monster Parts from the beast, allowing you to upgrade different weapons and armor sets. In this guide, we’ll give you all the tips and tricks to defeat the Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds solo.

Monster Hunter Wilds Doshaguma Attack Patterns

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the first step to defeating a monster is figuring out its attack patterns. Monsters have a set of moves that they will use to take players down, and Doshaguma’s attacks are telegraphed well ahead of time, making it easy for players to dodge through them and defeat the beast as long as they keep a keen eye.

Here are all of Doshaguma’s attacks in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • Ground Slam

The Doshaguma stands up on its rear legs and takes a brief pause. After that, it slams toward the ground with both arms. Alternatively, the monster can also use a single arm for this slam, which you can guard for a Power Clash. The best way to deal with this attack is to dodge to the side or backwards to get out of range.

Sometimes, you’ll see a weak point on the monster’s belly as it’s about to do its Ground Slam attack. If you’re quick enough, you can get a Focus Attack in to deal massive damage and break its belly wound.

  • Arm Slam and Throw

This is a combo attack that starts with a Ground Slam. After the slam attack, the Doshaguma will dig its arms underground and hurl rocks that can damage the hunter. This attack has a massive AOE, but it’s well-telegraphed. You can get behind the Doshaguma to avoid damage. However, dodge rolling backward will cause you to get hit.

  • Bite Attack

The Doshaguma opens its mouth and, after a brief pause, rushes forward to bite the hunter. Dodge diagonally in the monster’s direction to avoid taking damage.

The Doshaguma also has a Minor Roar and Minor Tremor attack that can temporarily immobilize the player. Minor Roar is countered by the Earplugs skill, while Minor Tremor is countered by Tremor Resistance.

Monster Hunter Wilds Doshaguma Weaknesses

At first glance, Doshaguma may seem intimidating to series initiates. However, like any other beast in Monster Hunter Wilds, Doshaguma has its fair share of weaknesses that you can exploit to gain an edge in battle.

Doshaguma’s primary weak point is its head, where it takes the most damage from both blunt and severing weapons. Its belly is also a weak point that opens up for a Focus Attack when it goes in for a Ground Slam. The Tail Hair is also breakable but shouldn’t be the primary focus as it has the lowest damage modifier.

Elemental Weaknesses:

  • Fire and Thunder are the most effective elements against Doshaguma.
  • Effective status effects include Poison, Sleep, Blastblight, Stun, and Exhaustion.

Best Traps to Use:

  • Flash Pod: Disorients the monster, creating an opening for attacks.
  • Shock & Pitfall Trap: Immobilizes Doshaguma, making it easier to land big hits.

How to Beat Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds

Besting the Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds requires you to first understand its moveset. Although it’s an intimidating foe early on, its attacks aren’t all that fast, so you’ll have plenty of time to dodge as long as you don’t overextend. It can be tempting to go in with multiple attacks any time you see an opening. However, the best way to beat the Doshaguma is to take things slow and back away after a few hits.

The best place to attack the monster is its head. It has the highest attack damage modifier, and you can also create wounds that you can use for Focus Attacks. However, it can be difficult to dodge its attacks when you’re always trying to strike its head.

Instead, you should focus on its front and rear limbs. Eventually, you’ll create wounds that you can use to inflict big damage and potentially stagger the monster. Once that happens, whip out your strongest attacks to deal as much damage as possible.
