Minecraft Dungeons Is Getting A Sequel According To Leak

Summary

  • A new leak has claimed the rumored Project Spicewood is a Minecraft Dungeons sequel.
  • The leak comes via a reliable source that usually shares information about Marvel Rivals.
  • Minecraft Dungeons was released in 2020 and has gone on to sell more than 25 million copies.

Rumors have been swirling for a while suggesting Mojang is working on a new Minecraft game, and thanks to a new leak, we might finally have an idea of what that game is. Reportedly referred to as Project Spicewood internally, the newly leaked information about the project claims the new game will be a sequel to Minecraft Dungeons.

The new info on whatever it is Mojang is working on comes from Twitter account X0X_LEAK. If that handle sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the account that’s usually dedicated to most of the, so far very accurate, Marvel Rivals leaks. It seems they might have the inside track on Minecraft too, although they’ve credited kran27_ as the original source for this leak.

These two Minecraft spinoffs do some interesting things with the world built by the sandbox simulator. Here are the main points of comparison.

According to the leak, the potential Minecraft Dungeons sequel has already been in development for two years, and Mojang is targeting a Q2 2026 release window which means it’s still more than a year away. It will apparently include desert and forest areas to explore, as well as an area that has been dubbed Honeycomb Fields.

Minecraft Dungeons Might Be Getting A Sequel

25 Million Copies Sold, You’d Like To Think Mojang Is Making A Follow Up

The post also includes a couple of supposedly leaked images – one that appears to be key art, potentially even what will be the game’s front cover, and a screenshot that looks a lot like something that might have been lifted from an in-development Minecraft Dungeons sequel. This should all be taken with a big grain of salt for the time being, of course. At least until Mojang has confirmed it has a new Minecraft project of some description in the works.

For those unfamiliar with the Dungeons take on the Minecraft formula, the spinoff is quite a bit different from the original concept. Instead of crafting and building, players are tasked with battling their way through procedurally generated dungeons, looking down on their characters from above as they solve puzzles and battle monsters.

Reactions to Minecraft Dungeons potentially getting a sequel appear to be overwhelmingly positive. Despite it being quite a bit different from regular old Minecraft, Dungeons was a hit, selling 25 million copies as of this time last year. With that in mind, the most surprising part of all this is Mojang taking this long to follow up.

Dungeons is the type of game that can get a sequel whereas the original game from which it’s spun, maybe not so much. The game’s creator claimed he was thinking of making a spiritual successor to what has gone on to become the best-selling game of all time, only to walk back those comments a week later.
