Before we take a look at how Yuji learned this technique it’s important to understand it first. Black flash occurs when a sorcerer applies cursed energy while dealing a physical blow to their enemy. But there is one condition to make it as devastating as it is, and that is to use the cursed energy during the strike within 0.000001 seconds.
If a sorcerer manages to successfully meet this condition they will be able to increase the power of the strike by a factor of 2.5, making it much more devastating. The targeted area when hit has a blackish aura which gives this technique its name the black flash.

Mastering this technique is extremely difficult, as it requires a lot of control over cursed energy as well as expertise in physical combat. Since this technique is so hard to master, many jujutsu sorcerers, even the most powerful ones like Gojo Satoru cannot use it consciously and most of the time when they do hit black flash, it’s pure luck.

Yuji Using The Black Flash
During the Kyoto Goodwill event, Yuji came across a third-year student from Kyoto Jujutsu High known as Aoi Todo who had great physical strength and was pretty confident in his skills. Initially, Todo didn’t pay much attention to Yuji, but as soon as he realized his potential he took it into his own hands to mentor him and made Yuji his brother.
Todo taught him how to fuse cursed energy with physical hits in a way that would make them much more deadly. Before this, Yuji only knew how to use a technique called the Divergent Fist, which was quite powerful, but the cursed energy wasn’t properly fused with the strike. Todo knew that by fixing this, Yuji would be able to deal much powerful hits and counter even the strongest of enemies.
The Battle Against Hanami
What was just meant to be a simple inter-school competition turned out to be a nightmare for the students when a special grade curse known as Hanami invaded the event. Todo and Yuji then go against Hanami together, and we see black flash in action for the very first time.
Not only did Todo help Yuji learn the black flash, but also assisted him throughout the battle. Thanks to his mentorship and support, Yuji successfully landed four consecutive black flashes, each more devastating than the last one, and became one of the best black flash users in the JJK universe.
Hanami wasn’t the only victim of Yuji’s black flashes as he used this technique against Mahito as well on several occasions. Against Hanami, black flash was powerful enough to do a high amount of damage to this special-grade curse.
