A museum isn’t much of a museum without exhibits you found on your expeditions.
Stars are awarded for completing specific objectives, which depend on the game mode you’re playing on. They all contribute to your overall Curator Class, which tracks your progress as a whole, across each museum site on the same save file. Here’s how it works.
Curator Class, Explained
Think of Curator Class as your overall character level as the museum administrator. Each time you earn a Star from a museum – any museum – it contributes toward you earning another rank of Curator Class. When you level up, you get cash for the museum you’re currently playing on, as well as Kudosh for unlocking universal items and usually new decorations or utilities as an extra bonus.
Importantly, each museum on the map has a maximum Star Rating that’s linked to your overall Curator Class. That means that you can’t increase your Curator Class very much by focusing on a single museum; you need to make all five of them successful, returning to each in rotation as their maximum rating goes up.
Earn a Star or two in each museum to raise your Curator Class, which raises the maximum number of Stars you can get, then repeat the process.
How To Earn Stars In Story Mode
In Story Mode, each museum has five chapters, divided into a set of story objectives. Whenever you complete a chapter, you get a Star. Many chapters have several objectives to get through before the Star is unlocked, but you can see your overall progress by looking at the circle around the Star Icon on the objective tracker; the more full the circle is, the closer you are to your next Star!
Later chapters in each museum aren’t unlocked until your Curator Class is high enough that you can earn those chapters’ Stars. You can keep playing on those museums, but it won’t earn you any progress toward finishing the story.
Epilogues
Once you complete the fifth chapter in a museum, you’ll enter the Epilogue, which plays the same as Sandbox Mode. You can earn extra Stars in completed museums, as long as your Curator Class allows it, by placing more Exhibits, earning more money, and generally making the best museum possible.
How To Earn Stars In Sandbox Mode
Sandbox Mode is much for free-form, but it still has objectives for earning Stars, which give you guidance and help you keep your museum on track. Since you aren’t bound to a particular theme on each map, Sandbox objectives are more focused on your museum’s overall financial success.
You’ll primarily earn Stars in Sandbox Mode by hitting profit goals, making key purchases, and expanding the museum’s collection.
How To Unlock New Maps In Sandbox Mode
The most important thing to know about Sandbox Mode is that you still need to build up all five museums to raise your Curator Class. Rather than completing story objectives, you unlock museums in Sandbox Mode by buying them with Kudosh. This means you need to save a little bit for expanding when you get a Kudosh reward for a Star, or grind out extra Kudosh by filling your Sticker Book when the time comes to cut the ribbon on a new museum.
