GTA Online Players Are Being Charged for a Free Vehicle

Grand Theft Auto Online players are being charged almost 2,000,000 GTA$ for the Karin S95, a vehicle that was supposed to be free for PC players on the new Enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5. After being released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022, the Enhanced edition of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online finally launched on PC on March 4, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing for everyone jumping into the big new update.

Rockstar Games’ fifth mainline entry in the Grand Theft Auto series has been going strong for well over a decade now, with its Enhanced edition being the latest of many re-releases. While Grand Theft Auto 5 was initially launched on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it has since made its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the latter of which now has two different versions: Legacy and Enhanced. The free upgrade is available to all owners of Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC and comes with a wide array of new graphical improvements and features, including ray tracing features such as ambient occlusion, global illumination, ray traced shadows and reflections, and much more.

GTA Online Players Charged for Free Karin S95

While PC players finally have the same features as Grand Theft Auto 5 players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, some players aren’t happy with the upgrade after being charged 2,000,000 GTA$ for a vehicle that was supposed to be free. Upon jumping into Grand Theft Auto Online for the first time after upgrading to the Enhanced edition, players who have completed the initial race for Hao’s Special Works will receive a text message from Hao notifying them that they can claim the Karin S95 for free via Southern San Andreas Super Autos. While the vehicle is listed as $0, Reddit user RogueTaco posted a short video showing them being charged almost 2,000,000 GTA$ for the S95.

This isn’t the only user reporting the annoying bug in Grand Theft Auto Online either, as plenty of other players chimed in to say that they have encountered the same issue. Reddit user Austinqueezy said, “it just happened to me,” while Enkrasia22 said, “it took $1,995,000 from my account, although it was tagged as free.” Like many others, they expressed their frustrations and said it was “very annoying.” However, the good news is that Rockstar Games appears to be refunding players. Everything_must_go2 took to the GTA Online subreddit to share an email from Rockstar Support, confirming that the studio had refunded the player 2,000,000 GTA$.

Sadly, this isn’t the only problem with the game’s big PC update, as Grand Theft Auto Online is now missing a key feature: text chat. Unlike the Legacy edition, players now appear to be unable to use text chat, making it impossible to communicate in public lobbies without a microphone. It’s unclear if the removal of text chat is intended or a bug that has slipped past Rockstar, but it has resulted in hundreds of negative reviews from players due to its removal.
