Summary
- Marvel’s Avengers unfortunately failed as a live-service game.
- The Russo Brothers are open to creating a new Avengers game.
- Disney has already brought them back for the MCU.
Marvel’s Avengers unfortunately never became the game Crystal Dynamics thought it would. Launched in 2020, the game barely managed to assemble a dedicated player base, resulting in it shutting down two years later. Despite the popularity of the MCU, the game’s repetitive missions and rather bland narrative saw it join a number of doomed live-revice games.

Marvel Rivals Is Everything Avengers Should Have Been
Marvel’s big break into multiplayer should’ve always been a hero shooter, not a looter shooter.
Marvel Rivals‘ success this year further showed that it wasn’t superhero saturation or live-service features that caused Avengers to fail, but its own decisions. However, will Earth’s mightiest heroes assemble again after their previous failure? Avengers Infinity War and Endgame directors Anthony And Joe Russo sure think so.
Avengers Reassemble
In a conversation with Variety, the Russos were asked if they would be open to the idea of video games based on Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars, or their ongoing Amazon TV show, Citadel. “We would definitely be open to it,” Joe Russo.
“We have a new partner at the company who is one of the greatest game developers in history, Donald Mustard, he’s the creator of “Fortnite,” and he’s come in now to work with us on building out what we think the future of storytelling could be, which is, some hybrid between linear and virtual and gaming. And we’re really interested in new ways to tell stories using technology,” he explained.
He continued, explaining the vision behind their new studio, AGBO. “And so the three of us together are trying to explore and ideate around what opportunities there could be over the next decade using new tools and new technology to tell stories and can we make it can we make it true transmedia, where the same assets that we’re using for CG in movies is also the same assets that are in the game, that are also the same assets in a virtual experience. And that’s the mission of AGBO currently, at the moment.”
A new Avengers game with the Russo Brothers behind it sounds pretty good. Disney had the same idea by bringing the two back for Doomsday and Secret Wars after the MCU failed to live up to its previously set bar.
