How To Start The Fifth Commandment

Talk to Katherine in the Hangman's Halter to start the Fifth Commandment

To start the Fifth Commandment sidequest, talk to Katherine in the Hangman’s Halter tavern. This will trigger a dialogue cutscene where she asks Henry for help to solve the murder of some of her friends.

The next stop is in the local cemetery, which is near the left side of the northern wall region. There will be a big detached building that looks like a chapel inside a big lot surrounded by walls and a small wooden door. Go through it and search for a man with a shovel, The Gravedigger.

Talking to him will be pretty straightforward. Simply tell the truth, and state that the investigation is important because Henry fears that the same thing could happen to a friend of his. The Gravedigger will open up and offer details about the crime. Finally, he will reveal an important detail about one of Alice’s friends. Pay attention to this, and talk to Barbora before examining the body.

You’ll find Barbora praying in the small chapel next to Alice’s body. Henry should ask the usual questions every good medieval detective should ask: Did she frequent any taverns? Did she have a sweetheart or lover? Barbora will reveal that Lumir, the former Scribe from the Bailiff’s Rathouse, is involved in the investigation of the murders, and Henry should consult with him before proceeding.

Examine The Victim’s Body

Now comes the hard part: the autopsy. Passing some Survival and Scholarship checks might help Henry discern special details about the killing. But the things that interest him most are the way that the corpse was treated. It was disemboweled and drained of blood, and the victim died by strangling. These details will reveal that the crime scene would have been messy. So, one of the next stops is to visit the crime scene. The modus operandi of the perpetrator will also reveal that the person (or people) involved in the crime was strong enough to break her neck, another important fact.

Examine The Crime Scene

Examine the Crime Scene KCD2 The Fifth Commandment

The crime happened on the opposite side of the city of Kuttenberg, near the western side of the north quarter, near the broken wall and the small pond that is marked on the map. Travel to that location and look for the obvious pool of blood lying in the mud.

The footprints around the scene make it impossible to discern if there were one or many attackers, but the blood pattern seems to indicate that the crime (or at least the gutting) happened in this zone. Talking to the nearby witness will not reveal much. Exhaust every dialogue option with the nearby blood pool to proceed.

Talk To Lumir

Before directing your attention to investigator Lumir, make a quick visit to the nearest Apothecary and purchase a Hair of The Dog Potion, bringing it with you when you go to find Lumir. You will see him about to pass out due to a severe hangover, leaning on a building in an alley.

Approach him to start a conversation, offer him the Hair of the Dog Potion to cure his hangover, and ask for the details about his investigation. Turns out the murderer might have left a trail, and some of the victims who survived the attacks could offer extra details that could lead to the murderer. Lumir will tell Henry that he needs to find the whereabouts of Zdena, Stanya, and Jarka, and the investigation will turn into a manhunt.

Find Information About Zdena, Stanya, and Jarka

The next step of this quest requires some hardcore medieval sleuthing, so arm yourself with patience, charm, and Henry’s best Lion or Mintha Parfume to persuade people to loosen their tongues. A long investigation process will lead players across Kuttenberg and beyond, to find what happened to three girls who are suspected of being the Serial Killer’s victims: Zdena, Stanya, and Jarka.

How To Find Zdena

You’ll find Strnad in the backyard of Chennyek’s Thieves’ Guild building, but he will be grumpy and drunk, so it will take convincing (a Hard Speech check) to make him spill the beans about Zdena. The girl had a ‘special’ relationship with a local fence, and it might be possible that they fled Kuttenberg together with their loot.

To find out more, travel to Rabstein and talk to the fence yourself. Once you reach the hamlet, search for a man named ‘Hired Hand Pint’ to learn the whereabouts of Zdena. As it turns out, Pint knows a lot about Zdena and her relationship with Strnad. Pint used to be Zdena’s fence, and it turns out that the girl is ‘stealing’ from the thieves and pocketing the loot for herself. He will reveal that she has a hideout nearby, and give Henry a Scarf he can use to find the girl using Mutt’s Track command.

Head to the marked location, and look for a ford where there’s a blood splatter on the side of the road. Here, use Mutt’s Track command to find Zdena. Sadly, they will arrive too late, since the girl has been dead for a long time. By examining the body, Henry can find Zdena’s Ring, a valuable quest item that also represents a piece of this puzzle.

How To Find Stanya

Next, talk to the Innkeeper at the nearest tavern (The Hole in the Wall). Make him loosen up by saying Henry is ‘A Good Guest’ and then picking the option ‘They Spend Money,’ and finally giving away a few Groschen to make him talk about Stanya, the barmaid.

He says that Stanya used to work there, and explains that one day, he called for her and she didn’t turn up. He went to her room only to find it empty, as she had vanished during the night. All he found were bloody footprints, which seemed to indicate that Stanya was another victim of the serial killer. Since nothing in life comes for free, the Innkeeper will ask for more Groschen (50 this time). Henry can also pass an Easy Speech check to avoid paying and keep finding out more. According to him, Stanya was bold enough to hang around some men, like a bard named William, and a charcoal burner named Barton from Vrchilitz. So, Henry’s next goal is to track down this mysterious Barton, who lives south of Kuttenberg.

Barton is in the southern area of the Coal Burner camp. He is bald, wearing a brown coat. After spotting Barton, Henry will need to pass a couple of Hard Checks to make him spill the truth about Stanya. Turns out, she is hiding with them, since she survived the attack of the serial killer, and she is afraid to go outside again. Barton will warn Henry that if he needs to talk to Stanya, he has to be nice to her. Stanya is hidden in the cottage behind Barton, so it won’t be hard to find her.

Stanya tells Henry that someone attacked her when she was coming back from the baths one night. She managed to get away, but she was so scared, she decided to flee Kuttenberg and stay with the Coalmakers. She also states that she didn’t see who attacked her. However, players will learn that the attacker was male, and he was German, since he cursed in that language when Stanya defended herself.

Passing two extra Speech Checks with Stanya will make her remember that there were two people waiting for her in the alley. The attacker had a strong grip, and Barton said he could be a Miner or a Swordsman. These are important details for the investigation.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – Lost Honour Walkthrough

Lost Honour is a pretty difficult Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 quest. For those struggling, this detailed walkthrough outlines how it can be completed.

How To Find Information About Jarka

Talk to Father Prokop in Kuttenberg’s Cemetery, next to the chapel where Alice’s body is being kept. Exhaust every possible dialogue option to inquire about the life and death of this victim. Pay attention to each of the questions:

  • “Where did you know her from?” will reveal that Father Prokop was Jarka’s uncle. Keep going, because the rest of the questions should have vital information that will help Henry put together the pieces of the puzzle.
  • When asking “Who do you think killed her?” the priest will point to the primary suspect: William, the bard. It is the third time William has been linked to one of the girls that were either attacked or murdered, but he is an infamous ‘skirt-chaser,’ so let’s not conclude just yet.

The important part comes when inquiring why Father Prokop doesn’t like Lumir. Either a Medium Scholarship check, or a hard Persuasion (speech) check will reveal that Lumir accused Father Prokop of murdering her own niece. When pressing even more (at the risk of losing some reputation), Father Prokop will also reveal that Jarka was pregnant. This revelation adds some context to the possibility of the Serial Killer picking girls who are in vulnerable situations.

How To Find The Culprit

Question William

Before returning to Lumir, players can question William the Minstrel, who can be found southwest of Kuttenberg. Henry can pass a Hard check and gain some reputation, or go for the Easy Check and lose some reputation to make William break and confess all his ‘misdoings.’

Players can hard press him to confess, but they’ll get nothing out. He is only a Bard, and is not a serial killer. If players pay attention during the investigation, they will know he is not strong enough to subdue any of the victims anyway. When pressed for more information, he also reveals that he was never intimate with either Zdena or Jarka, ruling him out as the father of Jarka’s child.

Return To Lumir

Talk to Lumir once more, exhausting every possible dialogue choice, and avoid withholding any kind of information. Wait for him to call Katherine before summarizing the results of Henry’s investigation, and concluding that the one to blame is none other but Von Grolle (since William and Prokop are innocent). Katherine suspected Father Prokop, and Lumir suspected William, but after Henry reveals all the information, the only logical conclusion will be the least expected. Both the ring found in Zdana’s body and Stanya’s testimony will be critical to figuring out the truth.

The outcome of The Fifth Commandment plays a crucial role in the path to Romancing Katherine. Make sure to take her side at the end of the quest to open the way for the achievement later the adventure.

In the final conversation, pick the choices that discard WIlliam and Prokop as Suspects, since all the information flow seems to point out to the Van Grolle Matriarch and her son Handl. To reach the final conclusion, pick up the following dialogue options:

  • I suspect the Von Grolles.
  • Jarka was pregnant with Von Grolle’s child.
  • Von Grolle was Alice’s suitor.

This will lead the crew to conclude that the evidence points to these alleged culprits.

How To Access The Von Grolle’s Estate & Investigate Hendl’s Room

Talk to the servant Thaddeus, who is keeping watch at the door. Pick any of the checks, either the Easy Survival/Alchemy checks, or the Medium Scholarship check. If players have previously completed The Thunderstone Side Quest and kept the stone, they can also state that the precious artifact is in their power, which will grant them access without a check.

Inside, talk to Madelina Von Grolle to ‘announce yourself’ and find out more information about Master Von Grolle’s illness. You do not particularly need to complete this optional task, but doing so will result in extra rewards and reputation. One important Hard check during the questioning of Madelline Von Grolle will reveal that her husband ‘liked to go around with women,’ and she seems disgusted about that.
