If you’re looking for a new roguelike to play, you can’t go wrong with Dead Cells. The beloved genre entry sits at around 140,000 positive user reviews on Steam, and offers one of the most complete, engaging, and challenging games around. Years of updates and DLC have shaped Dead Cells into an unmissable experience, and you can grab a Steam code for it at a big discount right now, but you don’t have long.

Dead Cells is one part roguelike, and another part Metroidvania. You awaken in prison without a head, and need to venture across a cursed island fighting bosses, exploring biomes, and upgrading yourself as you go. The 2D action is fast, gorgeously animated, and filled with tough opponents. You’ll start overly cautious, as I did, but eventually the flow of combat becomes second nature, as you blitz across each level and grow more powerful as you explore.

Now that the final Dead Cells update has been and gone, I can comfortably call it one of my all-time favorite roguelikes. Developer Motion Twin might have moved on to Windblown, but every time I go back to The Beheaded’s high-octane adventure I easily lose countless hours to it.

Dead Cells has had a healthy helping of free extras and premium DLC in the years since launch, and while it all improves the acclaimed roguelike, one stands tall above the rest. Return to Castlevania isn’t just a stellar crossover with history’s greatest vampire, it’s also some of the most inventive and haunting material the game has to offer. Not to mention, the sheer breadth of excellent song remixes alone is worth the price of admission.

The Dead Cells Humble Deal is available until Thursday March 6 at 10am PT / 1pm EST / 6pm GMT. You can buy the game at 50% off and expect to pay $12.49 / £10.99, while the DLC is also available at the same discount – apart from Return to Castlevania, which is 30% off. You can find them all on Humble or click the box above.
