Thunderbolts* is the next movie from Marvel Studios after Captain America: Brave New World. The anticipated MCU tentpole will be released in less than two months and the Funko Pops for the film just revealed the first look of Lewis Pullman’s The Sentry.
Pullman joined the cast of Thunderbolts* in January 2024 after Steven Yeun exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Yeun was cast in a significant role, with multiple sources claiming he was supposed to portray Sentry. Pullman joining the cast following Yeun’s departure sparked rumors that he would play Sentry, but Pullman’s role in the film had remained undisclosed. Despite that, many are convinced he is playing Sentry, aka Robert “Bob” Reynolds, because his character is named “Bob.” The leaked Funko Pops confirmed this and even revealed Pullman’s first official look as the Sentry.

Thunderbolts* is set to hit theaters in May, so what do recent test screenings say about the next Marvel movie?
A photo of the Thunderbolts* Funko Pops was shared on Instagram. It featured Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker and Pullman’s Sentry. Among the five Funko Pops, Pullman’s collectible gained the most attention probably because it was the first time they saw his look as Sentry. In the trailer, he wasn’t dressed as such. The Sentry Funko Pop is wearing a bright yellow bodysuit with dark blue accents. It is paired with a flowing blue cape and thick blue belt with the “S” emblem at the center, signifying his identity as Sentry. He also wears a pair of blue boots. Among the noticeable elements in his overall appearance is his shoulder-length blonde hair, giving him that mythological, god-like presence.
Sentry’s look attracted several reactions from online users. One fan approved of Sentry’s appearance, writing, “Sentry looks [fire emojis].” Another said they hoped Sentry’s costume would look exactly like that in the movie. A different Instagram user suggested Lego sets and a “Sentry mini figure.” The Funko Pop not only gave fans Pullman’s first official look as Sentry but also confirmed the rumors that he was playing Sentry in the film. In a previous interview, Pullman said that his character in Thunderbolts* was “all a mystery,” even to him when asked about it. “I was as surprised as everyone else to see what is happening with [my character] Bob, and it’s all a mystery,” he teased, per People. “It happened so long ago, I don’t really remember exactly.” He added that he wasn’t in the editing room and was as excited as the rest to see the movie.
Although Marvel Studios has been deliberately secretive about confirming Pullman’s character as Sentry, all signs point to it. His name is “Bob,” which aligns with Robert Reynolds, Sentry’s real name. Also, Pullman’s Bob exhibits invulnerability in the trailer, aligning with Sentry’s abilities. Sentry is a super-powered being with god-like strength. Some even compare him to Superman because of his super strength, ability to fly, near-invulnerability and energy manipulation. However, he also struggles with his dark alter ego, known as The Void, which represents his internal conflicts. Sentry could be a dangerous wildcard and the most powerful character introduced since Thor or the Hulk. This is probably the reason Marvel Studios is trying to keep the details about the character under wraps to avoid spoilers.
Thunderbolts* will hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
