Few games nail crossovers quite like Dead By Daylight. Killers from other IPs are always beautifully recreated, originate from some of the biggest horror franchises around, and bring fresh gameplay experiences with their personal perks. The Survivor crossovers are great too, don’t get me wrong, but slaying out with the Xenomorph from Alien or Pyramid Head from Silent Hill is just next level. While new Killers will always be added to DBD, Behaviour Interactive has just revealed that one iconic character will actually be leaving. In a few weeks’ time, The Cenobite won’t be obtainable in Dead By Daylight.
Yes, the notorious Pinhead from the Hellraiser universe will soon be unavailable to purchase and unlock. In fact, all of the content from the Hellraiser Chapter is being removed from the horror game. In explanation for Pinhead’s removal, Behaviour simply says: “Dead by Daylight is a live service game, and there’s always the possibility that unexpected changes may occur.” Reading between the lines, it seems that whatever licensing deal was struck for this Hellraiser DLC has expired.
However, if you already own Pinhead – or if you pick him up in his final weeks before he’s removed – you will still be able to play as him in the future and access any Hellraiser content you bought. Pinhead’s unique perks will also keep their names if you own him, but for those that don’t, those perks will be given new names and thrown into the general perk pool. It’s the same scenario too for any Hellraiser-specific achievements.
If you want to ensure that you can play as Pinhead in the future, now’s your last chance to grab him. “If you’re interested in unlocking The Cenobite or any of his Cosmetics – including The Chatterer Legendary Outfit – we’ll be holding a Last Chance sale with 50% off all things Hellraiser until it departs The Fog for good,” Behaviour says in an announcement post.
Pinhead, The Cenobite, will remain available to unlock in Dead By Daylight until Friday, April 4 at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm BST/ 5pm CEST.
It is unusual and disappointing to see a crossover character depart DBD – even though there are still loads of amazing characters to choose from, and those that own Pinhead can still use him in the future, there will no doubt be some nerves that other Survivors and Killers could become unavailable later down the line if they’re beholden to similar licensing agreements. The Hellraiser DLC was added in August 2021, so it has at least been around for a good few years.
