Developer and publisher Frogwares has announced The Sinking City 2 will soon launch a Kickstarter campaign to propel the sequel towards a projected 2025 release. The Sinking City games are notably inspired by the work of horror author and Cthulhu creator H.P. Lovecraft, and while the first game nestled into the action-adventure genre, the sequel is taking a nose dive straight into survival horror.
The first Sinking City game is considered one of the best games set within an abandoned city, since the haunting events of the game take place in the fictional city of Oakmont, Massachusetts during the 1920s, as the player encounters nightmarish visions while investigating the city’s relentless flood. The predecessor was praised for its open-world detective elements, from discovering clues to concluding cases, alongside the gritty worldbuilding and intriguing writing.

Posted on the game’s Steam page, Frogwares confirmed The Sinking City 2’s Kickstarter would launch on March 6, 2025, and outlined the various exclusive rewards, community events, and behind-the-scenes treats in store. The Sinking City 2 was announced back in March 2024 as a “full-blown horror” game, and one of the driving forces behind its horror is the legendary Cthulhu, who graces the series’ first-ever physical Collector’s and Limited Editions. The developer also confirmed backers would receive first looks at the sequel’s new environments, creatures, and gameplay features, alongside community-based challenges and events designed for fans to discover some secrets before the game’s release.
The Sinking City 2’s Kickstarter Campaign Launched March 6
Thanks to protagonist Charles W. Reed’s detective work in the original entry, The Sinking City was quickly regarded as one of the best games for players who love conspiracy theories. However, the sequel boasts a standalone story set in 1920s Arkham (not to be confused with DC’s Arkham Asylum from Batman) during the aftermath of a supernatural flood. Eldritch monsters are promised to return and flaunt even more horrific details being created in Unreal Engine 5, and fans will even be able to bag a figure of the sequel’s fish creature within the Collector’s Edition.
Since the sequel is possibly eyeing a 2025 release, six years after the debut of its predecessor, horror fans hope The Sinking City 2 improves on the original’s technical difficulties, as some noted the game’s frustrating performance issues. Since Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games’ latest version of the 3D computer graphics engine, is fueling the successor, players are hopeful Arkham gameplay runs seamlessly this time around, especially since the sequel is said to focus more on combat.
