Mega Evolution returns to the Pokemon TCG, and with the change to the game, we look at some of the most expensive Mega Evolutions throughout history. The introduction of Mega Evolutions began in the XY era, with Charizard and Rayquaza grabbing the spotlight as two of the most powerful and valuable cards on the market.

We take a look at the most expensive full art trainer cards you can get in Pokemon TCG.

Mega Evolution cards expanded into the Sun & Moon era, where dozens of valuable cards from sets like Team Up and Unified Minds appeared with two Pokemon, at least one of which was Mega Evolved. With Mega Evolutions returning to the Pokemon TCG after a significant hiatus, it’s a great time to review some of the best Mega Evolved Pokemon chase cards.

Cards are ordered according to their Market Prices on TCGplayer. Any cards without a Market Price are not included.

Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff EX: Cosmic Eclipse (Alternate Full Art) – $95.40

An Adorable Duo

The Cosmic Eclipse Mega Lopunny&Jigglypuff from the Pokemon TCG.

The most valuable Cosmic Eclipse cards have a variety of top-tier Pokemon in duos, solo, and in their Mega Evolved forms. Mega Lopunny and Jigglypuff team up to form one of the most colorful and cute duos in the entire set, with a value high enough to make waves among the most valuable Mega Evolutions.

However, Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff have had a fascinating rise to the top, soaring from about $60 in early 2024 to over $100 by the end of that year. While it’s backed off from the $110 high it set, Mega Lopunny and Jigglypuff still hover around $100, indicating strong support around that plateau.

Larger Than Life

The M Gyarados Oversize Promo card in Pokemon TCG.

Mega Gyarados EX stands out as the sole oversized card among the most expensive Mega Evolved Pokemon in the TCG. A regular-sized card didn’t boast enough space for this gargantuan creature to fit.

Mega Gyarados boasts its beautiful shiny red coloration, standing out beautifully on the blue background.

Unfortunately, this card is extremely difficult to find on TCGplayer, with a lack of recent sales to confirm prices based on condition. For now, the market price is roughly what you can expect to pay for a near-mint (NM) copy of this card.

6

M Charizard Y EX: Flashfire (Secret Rare) – $102.39

Catching Fire

The Flashfire M Charizard EX Y UR from the Pokemon TCG.

M Charizard (Y) EX has sputtered and stagnated a bit, reaching highs of almost $115 in 2024 before eventually falling to its current market price. Charizard Y is undoubtedly the less popular version in Flashfire, but its lack of a strong price chart is somewhat concerning.

Even NM copies of this card struggle to exceed the $100 plateau, leaving plenty of room below that number for copies of this card in worse condition to sell. Although there’s no telling how the reintroduction of Mega Evolutions will affect the card’s price, it’s unlikely to keep dropping as it has.

5

M Charizard X EX: Flashfire (Ultra Rare) – $131.97

Part Of A Pair

The Flashfire M Charizard EX X UR from the Pokemon TCG,

If you love Charizard, then there are plenty of valuable Mega versions to collect, with Flashfire sticking out as one of the best sets thanks to three top-tier entries on this list.

This Mega Charizard X is nearly identical to its twin Secret Rare still to come, but isn’t anywhere close to the same value.

Despite its minor differences, this Mega Charizard stands as one of the most impressive Mega Evolution cards thanks to its unusual design, which has become a signature of some of the most recognizable cards from the XY era.

4

Mega Sableye & Tyranitar GX: Unified Minds – $149.10

Together As One

The Sableye & Tyranitar GX from Unified Minds in the Pokemon TCG.

If you weren’t familiar with some of the best chase cards in Unified Minds, prepare to be introduced to one of the set’s most stunning cards: Mega Sableye & Tyranitar GX. This Dark-type duo doesn’t appear together often, but they made the most of their time with this beautiful Tag Team card featuring Mega Sableye.

While this card floated around the $120 mark in early 2024, it continues to rise to its current market price, indicating persistent high demand for this impressive card. While Sableye isn’t typically a popular choice, this card helps elevate it to new levels.

3

M Rayquaza EX: Roaring Skies (Full Art) – $172.47

Soaring And Roaring

The Roaring Skies M Rayquaza EX Full Art from the Pokemon TCG.

Rayquaza holds a tight grip on the most valuable Roaring Skies cards, as this Mega Evolved Legendary Pokemon boasts a bright green design infused with an explosion of brilliant color. This full art falls short of another Rayquaza still to come but is no slouch.

Pokemon TCG: The 9 Most Valuable Umbreon Cards

Umbreon to the moon.

Unlike some of the other top-tier Mega Evolution cards, this Rayquaza spiked in value during early 2024, maintaining its market price steadily for about a year. While its current market price seems solid, time will tell where this Rayquaza might settle among the best Mega Pokemon cards.

2

M Rayquaza EX: Ancient Origins (Shiny Full Art) – $330.41

To New Heights

The Ancient Origins M Rayquaza EX full art from the Pokemon TCG.

A shiny color palette makes a huge difference in the Pokemon TCG, as evidenced by this superb Rayquaza card, which earns a place among the most valuable cards in Ancient Origins. The previous, non-shiny Mega Rayquaza hasn’t hit the $200 mark just yet, but this card is well ahead, soaring toward the $350 mark.

However, unlike the prior Rayquaza, this card took a gradual turn upward, climbing from roughly $140 in 2024 to about $200 higher roughly a year later. Such a massive uptick might be difficult to sustain, but Rayquaza is one of the few Pokemon who can manage such a feat.

1

M Charizard X EX: Flashfire (Secret Rare) – $460.95

The Top Mega Dog

The M Charizard EX X Secret Rare from Flashfire in the Pokemon TCG.

The most expensive Mega Evolved Pokemon in the TCG is, unsurprisingly, Charizard. However, what may surprise you is the minuscule difference between this card and the Ultra Rare from the same set. You’ll notice that this card, the Secret Rare, boasts brighter gold lettering and accents that set it apart.

To further differentiate itself, this card’s journey has been far more complex than the Ultra Rare, as the Secret Rare jumped from $300 to well over $400 after originally falling to $300 from the $380 mark. While its price chart features tumultuous times, in the end, this card comes out on top.
