One of the core features of Monster Hunter Wilds is crafting new equipment that can better your hunter’s abilities. While most materials needed will come from the monsters themselves, players may need to go out into the world and find certain items that are scattered throughout the map.
When exploring through Monster Hunter Wilds, these crystal-like rocks can be found on the edges of certain areas called mining outcrops. These will contain mining-related materials that players will need to craft certain pieces of equipment. The Novacrystal, being among these items, is one of the rarest that can be acquired from these posts by random chance. Additionally, there is one specific monster that can oddly drop this item if hunted properly.

How to Get Novacrystals from Gypceros in Monster Hunter Wilds
The one monster that is capable of dropping Novacrystals is Gypceros, a bird wyvern commonly found in the Windward Plains and Iceshard Cliffs. Before searching, players must be in high rank before hunting Gypceros or mining, as 
Novacrystals
are not present in low-rank mining outcrops, and Gypceros are not available to hunt until players get to at least HR 8.
Gypceros has a 30 percent chance of dropping it at the end of a hunt upon breaking its head. Destroying wounds also drops materials –Gypceros has a 12 percent chance of dropping a Novacrystal that way.
When mining for Novacrystals, players must find a mining outcrop in the world and interact with it to break it open. They tend to be grouped closely, making certain areas on the map better for finding these materials. Afterward, players can collect up to three random materials from a loot pool.
While exploring with your Palico and Alma, they can also randomly find extra materials that will be added to your item box if found. Upon harvesting a mining outcrop completely, it will then be set on a 15-minute real-world timer that, once reset, will then allow it to be harvested again for more items.
Where to Mine for Novacrystals In Monster Hunter Wilds
Certain rare mining materials will be found in a specific region. However, Novacrystals can be found in mining outcrops across all regions. Those regions are:
- Windward Plains
- Scarlet Forest
- Oilwell Basin
- Iceshard Cliffs
- Ruins of Wyveria
In this installment, the maps are rather vast, with some of them having multiple levels. Luckily, Monster Hunter maps are designated with numbered zones that can make identifying certain locations easier. Listed below are zones on each map that are rich in mining outcrops that can make mining for this rare crystal easier, along with corresponding images.
- Windward Plains Zone 7 and 9: Immediately to the right of base camp has two outcrops with two more neighboring those in zone 9.
- Scarlet Forest Zone 8: This is the map with the largest number of outcrops in one area, with them being towards the top of zone 8 with five different ones to mine. You can also set up a Pop-Up Camp right in the middle of them.
- Oilwell Basin Zone 4 and 6: There are two outcrops in each respective zone, with there also being a spot to set up a camp right in between them.
- Iceshard Cliffs Zone 8: This zone has three outcrops around the edges of the location, creating a circular path from one to the other.
- Ruins of Wyveria Zone 1: More sparse than the other locations, one outcrop can be found when leaving base camp and continuing left, followed by returning to the base camp entrance and traveling to the right until you get to a connecting part of zone 1 leading to zone 2.
