Konami has announced a new entry to the long-running Suikoden series, but the upcoming game, titled Suikoden Star Leap, will only be available for iOS and Android devices. Additionally, Suikoden Star Leap will be a free-to-play title, and players can expect to encounter some in-game microtransactions.
One of Konami’s most beloved RPG franchises, the Suikoden series currently consists of five main titles and six spin-offs, though many of the latter weren’t released outside of Japan. Inspired by the classical Chinese novel Water Margin, the Suikoden games are somewhat similar to Final Fantasy, in that the games are not chronological but share similar themes and some overlapping characters. While the series enjoyed consistent releases for some time after the first game dropped in 1995, the last mainline entry was released in 2006, and the latest spin-off was launched outside of Japan not long after, in 2009. Fans are now getting their first glimpse at the next addition to the series, though it may not be what many anticipated.

Suikoden Star Leap Announced for iOS and Android
According to the game’s official website, Suikoden Star Leap will tell the story of the Rune of Change, one of 27 True Runes rumored to have created the world itself. The game’s protagonist is the son of a village chief who takes charge after a sudden assault, teaming up with others to embark on a journey to bring peace back to the land. The game’s theme song, Campanula, is performed by Kaho Nakamura, who previously voiced Suzu Naito in the 2021 anime film Belle.
Suikoden Star Leap isn’t the only game in the franchise that fans can look forward to. Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster will be released on March 6 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. The updated versions of the first two games will include additional environmental sound effects, updated interfaces, new character portraits, and more.
