A new indie co-op horror game, R.E.P.O., has taken Steam by storm and is already being hailed as the most successful Lethal Company clone—for all the right reasons. Despite still being in early access, R.E.P.O. has seen massive success, reaching multiple milestones just days after launch.

R.E.P.O. stands for “Retrieve, Extract, & Profit Operation,” perfectly summarizing its gameplay premise. This co-op horror game allows up to six players to team up on a mission to collect and extract valuables from a haunted mansion. For a clearer comparison, R.E.P.O. combines the hide-and-seek mechanics of Dandy’s World with the physics and gameplay style of Lethal Company. Throughout each round, players must scavenge for collectibles while evading the terrifying creatures that guard them.

New Co-Op Horror Game Has You Playing as Dogs

Developer LazyFlock gives players a sneak peek at its upcoming cozy co-op horror game that will let players explore as dogs.

R.E.P.O., the second game from Swedish developer Semiwork, has quickly captured the attention of thousands of Steam players and currently holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating. While Semiwork’s previous title, Voidigo, found success in the action roguelike genre, it never reached the same level of popularity as R.E.P.O. With hundreds of popular streamers already on board, this new co-op horror game appears ready to achieve the same viral success as Lethal Company. The devs plan to keep the game in early access for the standard six-to-twelve-month period. During this phase, R.E.P.O. features three playable worlds, 19 enemy types, 29 pieces of equipment, and eight character upgrades, all contributing to its replayability.

R.E.P.O. Could Be the ‘Funnier’ Lethal Company

After Lethal Company’s global success, dozens of clones emerged, each trying to replicate its formula with minor tweaks. However, R.E.P.O. is widely regarded as the most successful among them for several strong reasons. The game builds on simple physics-based mechanics but uses them to create hilariously unpredictable moments. For instance, players can accidentally hit each other with objects, leading to awkward and funny interactions. Another standout feature is how players interact with monsters, setting R.E.P.O. apart from other Lethal Company imitators. Some creatures can possess players, temporarily altering their appearance and voice, resulting in intense yet comical chase sequences.

Players interested in parody horror games like R.E.P.O. should act fast, as it on sale for 20% off at time of publication, bringing the price down to $7.99. Once the promotion ends, it will return to its original $9.99—though the devs have noted that the price will increase once the game reaches its 1.0 release. It is worth noting that developer Semiwork has committed to adding more fun features before the full launch and is already working on matchmaking lobbies, a highly requested addition since the game currently lacks a way to join random players.
