The Catch of a Lifetime is the fourth of five Monster Hunter Wilds fishing side missions and becomes available immediately after players have completed Fishing for Flavor. It requires players to catch a Whopper, which is a class of fish rather than a specific type.

Monster Hunter Wilds Complete Monster List (Locations, Resistances, and Weaknesses)
All of the monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds have their own strengths and weaknesses and many can be found in multiple locations.
To catch a Whopper, Monster Hunter Wilds players will need to head to a body of open water and use one of the special lures that Kanya provides. There are a few different types of fish that are classified as Whoppers, so players have options available to them.
Where to Find a Whopper in Monster Hunter Wilds (Whopper Location)
There are a couple of places players can go to catch a Whopper, but the best is arguably the large body of water to the northeast of area 17 of the Scarlet Forest. It’s best to head there at night during seasons of Plenty, although large fish can still be caught during the daytime, so whether or not players rest to change the time of day is entirely up to them. What is important is that players aren’t fishing in the water shown on the map, but rather in the water to the north of the invisible barrow on the map’s northern perimeter (directly beneath the number 17 on the brown part of the map, on the image shown above).
How to Catch a Whopper in Monster Hunter Wilds

As mentioned above, there are a few different fish that players can catch to complete The Catch of a Lifetime. Gastronome Tuna and Goliath Squid prefer the Tuff Joint Bait, Gajau are attracted to the Duster Jig, and Goliath Squid are most likely to go for the Tentacle Jig (though can also be caught using the Tuff Joint Bait). As with previous Monster Hunter Wilds fishing side missions, after locating a fish, players should cast their line in front of it and then jiggle the lure around a little.
However, this time, when the time comes to real the fish in, players will need to complete a fairly basic fishing mini-game. The aim here is to pull the line in the direction that the fish is swimming to reduce tension, while being sure to keep the fish away from rocks and other obstacles that may break the line. If the fish leaps out of the water, players should pull the line in the direction that the fish jumps and then pull the right trigger. Once the fish grows tired and stops fighting, players will be free to reel it in by pulling the line toward them.
The Catch of a Lifetime Rewards
After they’ve caught a Whopper, players should return to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest base camp and show off their catch. After another brief conversation, she’ll hand over five Gunpowderfish Scale
and Five Honey
as a reward. Players will also receive 200 Guild Points, which should be more than enough to help them increase their Hunter Rank.
