Monster Hunter Wilds Sells 8 Million Copies In Three Days

In just three days, Monster Hunter Wilds has sold eight million copies, making it the fastest-selling game in Capcom history.

To put that figure into perspective, Monster Hunter: World—Capcom’s best-selling game of all-time—sold five million copies in its first three days. If Wilds keeps up momentum, perhaps it will take World’s crown, though it would have to surpass a staggering 25 million units sold.

As reported by Gematsu, Capcom attributes Wilds’ huge success to its broad appeal and huge marketing push, as well as its online beta, which allowed players to try the game firsthand ahead of launch. “As a result of these continuous global initiatives, Monster Hunter Wilds has evoked massive excitement,” Capcom stated.

Monster Hunter Wilds Is Dominating Steam

On launch day alone, Monster Hunter Wilds hit one million concurrent players. That success hasn’t faltered despite some troubling issues with the PC port’s performance, which was bad enough to drag its overall review score down to “Mixed”. Nonetheless, Wilds is still the number two game on Steam right now, with a 24-hour peak of 1.2 million players, placing it above Dota 2, PUBG, Naraka: Bladepoint, and Marvel Rivals.

This dominating success on Steam has even cast a shadow over indie developers on the platform. As reported by Automaton, the two-person studio STP Works stated that their sales flatlined eight hours before Wilds’ release. “We haven’t sold a single game since,” the dev said.

Monster Hunter Wilds is an unprecedented hit for Capcom, and it shows no sign of slowing down.
