Ever since his first few appearances in the series, Gojo has always portrayed himself as a silly and almost aloof character who never really took anything seriously. Because of this, he gave the impression of being an exceptionally powerful sorcerer who was really childish and stupid. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth since Gojo was perhaps the most intelligent fighter in the series, even more so than Sukuna.

The truth of why he reached such levels has to do with his Cursed Technique and the unique circumstances of his birth. Gojo was born with the Limitless Cursed Technique, which provides the greatest defense in the entire world, though it can never be used to its full potential without the elusive Six Eyes, which, coincidentally, he was also born with. The Six Eyes gave him unparalleled control over his Cursed Technique and an incredible understanding of Cursed Energy as well, which meant that his knowledge of Jujutsu sorcery was only behind Kenjaku, Sukuna, and Master Tengen.

Infinity exists everywhere. My Jujutsu just brings it forward in reality.

At a very young age, he mastered the fundamentals of Jujutsu with the realization of Reverse Cursed Technique and Cursed Technique Reversal. By doing this, he was able to figure out the secret technique of his clan on his own and used it to defeat Toji Fushiguro in a fight, cementing himself as the world’s most powerful sorcerer and the greatest asset to the entire Jujutsu world.

Another display of his intelligence was in the Shibuya Incident. Once the Transhumans were released by Mahito and were causing havoc across the train station, Gojo instinctively activated his Domain for only 0.2 seconds, incapacitating everyone in the vicinity so that he could kill all the Transhumans before they could harm any more civilians. Due to his intelligence and understanding of his abilities, he knew that 0.2 seconds was the timeframe that would allow him to kill the Transhumans without significant damage being dealt to everyone else’s minds.

Moreover, the truest test of his intelligence was shown in the battle against Sukuna, where he showed an incredible mastery of his technique along with an unparalleled aptitude for battle. In this fight, he battled against Sukuna, Mahoraga, and Agito, so he was at a supreme disadvantage from every side. Still, though, he was able to use his technique and situational awareness to take them all on at once, with many moments cementing his place as the smartest sorcerer.

The Domain clash against Sukuna particularly stands out, since both of the strongest and smartest sorcerers in history kept one another’s Domains at bay by using their own. Since Sukuna’s is the most offensively capable Domain, Gojo was simultaneously on the defensive and the offensive here. Finally, at the end of the battle, Gojo was able to distract his enemies by amplifying and weakening Lapse Blue and Reversal Red, eventually forming Hollow Purple and using it on everyone present. Since it was made up of his own Cursed Energy, Hollow Purple didn’t do much damage to him but annihilated Mahoraga and greatly weakened Sukuna.

Other Instances Of Gojo’s Intelligence

How Smart Is He?

Aside from being a combat genius with the greatest control and knowledge of Cursed Energy, Gojo is also very emotionally intelligent. When it comes to his students, he knows everything about them and always knows exactly what to say to make them feel better about things. Although he is very adamant about their inclusion in the Jujutsu world, he never pushes anything on them, letting them make their own decisions every time.

This is why he’s so beloved by his students and fans of the series alike. While he may seem hilarious and silly on the outside, he has always maintained a strict resolve to foster the next generation to be even stronger than him in order to prevent the world’s dependence on just one exceptionally powerful person. By making sure all of his students are incredibly powerful, nothing like what happened between him and Geto can happen again, which is something he ensured before his death.

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime.
