Crafting elemental weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds is essential for more comfortable endgame progression, and you’ll need materials like the Aqua Sac to start the process for certain Water and Thunder weapons. Unfortunately, getting even a few Aqua Sacs takes some additional effort, as it’s a rarer material unique to only a pair of monsters.
Once you know where to look, though, gathering Aqua Sacs is a straightforward, if time-consuming, process. We’ll show you where to look and what to do in this guide, specifically the monsters you’ll need to be hunting if you’re after the weapon of your dreams!
Where To Get Aqua Sacs
The Aqua Sac is a somewhat unique monster material. You can only get it as a target reward for slaying or capturing a Balahara or an Uth Duna. You can’t get them from carving or breaking the monster’s parts. Worse, the chance to get an Aqua Sac is relatively low compared to other materials you might be hunting for.
Here are the specific odds for getting the Aqua Sac to drop:
Monster |
Type |
Habitat |
Aqua Sac Drop Rate |
---|---|---|---|
Balahara |
Leviathan |
Windward Plains |
18% chance for one |
Uth Duna |
Leviathan |
Scarlet Forest |
16% chance for one |
You’ll first encounter Balahara in Chapter 1-4 during the assignment Balahara of the Sandsea. You fight, but do not slay, Uth Duna in Chapter 1-5 during the mission A Feast in the Deep.
To farm either monster, speak to Alma and start the Optional Quests Sand Sea Surges for Balahara or Veiled by the Tide for Uth Duna.
Aqua Sac is a Low Rank reward, meaning you won’t be able to farm it in High Rank quests or the High Rank open world once you’ve completed the Low Rank story campaign. You need to enter Low Rank quests to access the Low Rank open world.
Between the two monsters, we recommend farming Balahara in the one-star quest Sand Sea Surges. There are a few reasons, but the main one is that, as an early game quest, the gear you use to fight it will quickly out-class its attacks and defenses.
Being overgeared ensures a single quest hunting a Balahara shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. Additionally, because Uth Duna is a larger monster with a lower chance at an Aqua Sac, fighting it over a Balahara is less efficient.
What You Can Make With Aqua Sacs
As a Low Rank material, Aqua Sacs will only let you make up to Rarity 4 gear. Most higher-quality weapons require that you have the lower-rarity version, however. That means if you want Rarity 5 and above weapons, you need to first craft the weaker stuff you’d use materials like Aqua Sacs to make.
Specifically, you can make the following gear with Aqua Sacs:
- Balahara Vambraces (Arms armor): One Aqua Sac needed in addition to other requirements.
- Balahara Blade I (Sword and Shield): One Aqua Sac needed in addition to other requirements.
- Guild Knight Sabers I (Dual Blades): Two Aqua Sacs needed in addition to other requirements.
- Balahara Hammer I (Hammer): One Aqua Sac needed in addition to other requirements.
- Balahara Horn I (Hunting Horn): One Aqua Sac needed in addition to other requirements.
- Balahara Lance I (Lance): One Aqua Sac needed in addition to other requirements.
- Balahara Exploder I (Gunlance): One Aqua Sac needed in addition to other requirements.
- Balahara Glaive I (Insect Glaive): One Aqua Sac needed in addition to other requirements.
If you want to make everything that requires an Aqua Sac, you’ll need nine of them. Depending on your luck and patience levels, it could take as little as a half hour to forty-five minutes if you hunt Balahara with high-quality gear.
If you’re farming Aqua Sacs with lower-rank gear or similar quality weapons and armor, expect each hunt to take at least seven minutes or so.
Our first run with Greatsword was about eight minutes long as we learned the fight. Knowing how to fight Balahara and using later-game gear could easily cut that time in half.
