Summary

  • The future of Call of Duty: Warzone seemingly hinges on whether the return to Verdansk succeeds or fails.
  • In a tweet, insider TheGhostofHope shared that should the return fail to retain current players, as well as bring on new players, then Warzone 3 will not be developed.
  • Earlier on Monday, Call of Duty revealed that Season 03 of Black Ops 6 and Warzone, which is rumored to be the Verdansk season, will be delayed to April 3.

On Monday, the official Call of Duty Twitter account revealed that Season 03 of Black Ops 6 and Warzone will no longer launch as planned on March 20. Instead, in an effort to ensure maximum quality for a “big moment,” Season 03 will release on April 3.

The season, which has been rumored to see the return of Verdansk, has a lot of pressure to deliver, particularly as player counts for COD continue to dwindle. Now, that pressure has been magnified tenfold, as it’s being reported that should Verdansk fail to retain its current playerbase on top of attracting a new base, then the mode will cease to exist.

Warzone 3 May Not Be A Thing

As part of a larger information dump, including information about the 2026 iteration of Call of Duty being on the next-generation of Xbox consoles, COD insider TheGhostofHope also shared that should Verdansk fail, then there will be no Warzone 3.

It’s unclear what would happen to the existing Warzone mode should Verdansk not hit the expectations placed on it. Currently, it’s the only mode that allows users to use purchased skins from previous CODs, meaning a potential disbandment could also lead to lost digital goodies.

In a follow-up reply, the insider wrote, “If Verdansk fails, they won’t put the resources into it, which makes sense.” They also wrote, “Not sure why people are entirely shocked (that) they may not (want to) put further resources into a mode that has been around for 6 years and continues to see diminishing returns.”

As TheGamer has reported in the past, there was never any intention of actually returning to Verdansk. Rather, in an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of Fortnite OG, a decision to pivot was made. With Season 03 being heavily rumored to be exactly that return to Verdansk, it seemingly won’t be too long before fans know if it’s a success or failure, and thus, whether Warzone will be a thing in the future.
