Marvel Rivals Crossovers With Other IPs Confirmed By NetEase

Marvel Rivals Galacta Funko Pop Announced, Releasing Next Week

Summary

  • NetEase confirms in an earnings call that it plans to hold crossover events in Marvel Rivals.
  • We don’t know which IP will be first, but it will aid in expanding the playerbase even further.
  • So far, all of the events in Marvel Rivals have been based on the in-universe lore and source material.

Marvel Rivals will crossover with other media. NetEase confirmed this in a recent earnings call, expressing a desire to grow the Marvel Rivals playerbase even further.

In the call, as reported on by Yahoo Finance, a NetEase representative confirms that there will be crossover events in Marvel Rivals, something we’ve seen no sign of so far. We have no idea which IPs will crossover with Marvel Rivals first, or even when the events will happen, but we now know that NetEase is looking beyond the Marvel source material.

Marvel Rivals Crossover Events Are On The Way

Marvel Vs. Capcom Rivals, anyone?

This was spotted in an earnings call, shared by Marvel Rivals Intel on social media. Here, NetEase was asked about its growth strategies for Marvel Rivals, and the answer gives us an idea of where the live service is heading.

“NetEase plans to continue investing in development and marketing, with a long-term operational strategy,” NetEase responds. “The team has plans for eSports and will announce these plans to enhance the gaming ecosystem. There will also be crossover events and promotions with other media to expand the user base.”

Crossovers are hardly new for live services, with Fortnite being built around the idea of bringing as many IPs together. It certainly seems to work, as fans of the particular series might consider installing the game to check it out. We’ve seen other live services do this too, with Overwatch 2 holding events centred around My Hero Academia, Cowboy Bepop, and more since the sequel launched.

Marvel Rivals, however, is in a unique position. It’s already centred around a long-established IP, which can pull in hardcore fans of the source material, as well as more casual enthusiasts, thanks to the monstrous success of the MCU. And of course, its gameplay might just pull in players who don’t care about Marvel at all. Still, NetEase has its sights set higher, so we can expect these crossover events at some point down the line.
