When Harry Bosch left the LAPD under a cloud and registered as a private investigator in the final season of the original Bosch series, it didn’t end his involvement with his loyal Hollywood Homicide colleagues, Crate and Barrel. Gregory Scott Cummins and Troy Evans returned as Crate and Barrel in Bosch: Legacy‘s first two seasons, albeit in a drastically reduced role, and it turns out Evans was less than happy with this. In a recent post on Facebook in response to a fan’s question about Crate and Barrel’s role in the upcoming final season, Evans said:
Not much Crate and Barrel in Bosch: Legacy season 3. Amazon wanted younger people. We have like, 4 scenes in 3 seasons. Disappointing.
This is very disappointing news for Bosch: Legacy fans, with Crate and Barrel providing much-needed comic relief and support to Harry Bosch’s investigations in the series. The fan favorites appeared in two episodes each of Bosch: Legacy‘s first two seasons, which was a huge drop from their prominent roles in the original Bosch series. Based on Evans’ most recent comments, the third and final season of Bosch: Legacy looks set to feature Crate and Barrel even less.

Crate and Barrel were involved in one of the most explosive storylines to ever feature in the Bosch-verse, when they assisted Harry Bosch with the explosion of Carl Rogers‘ pipeline in Bosch: Legacy season 1. When the pair returned in Bosch: Legacy season 2, Bosch informed Crate and Barrel of the FBI investigation into the explosion, and warned the now-retired detectives that they may be facing subpoenas for their roles in the crime. This plot thread was left wide open as the second season came to a close, so how is Crate and Barrel’s limited appearance in the final season going to significantly pay this off, while also giving these legendary characters a proper send off? The fact that Troy Evans and Gregory Scott Cummins have recently spoken out against Amazon strongly suggests they won’t be playing a part in the upcoming Ballard spin-off. This is particularly bizarre as the fan favorites are perfect for Ballard’s cold case unit as it’s designed to recruit retired detectives.
