The armor you wear in Monster Hunter Wilds not only gives you defensive stats against various types of incoming damage but also can give you specific skills that further protect you or make you stronger in battle. While some of these skills require you to equip multiple of the same armor pieces, other skills work on their own and go into effect just by equipping any piece of armor with that skill.

These skills can also further be boosted by equipping multiple armor pieces with the same skill, rewarding players for carefully choosing which armor pieces they choose to equip, and giving some freedom to mix and match. One skill is called Latent Power; here’s how it works and how to activate it.

How To Activate Latent Power In Monster Hunter Wilds

While the in-game description of Latent Power may not be very clear on how to activate it, all you have to do is enter combat and wait. Latent Power will activate automatically after enough time has passed that you’re actively fighting any monster. The amount of time it takes to activate does vary based on how you’re fighting. It can take up to two minutes to activate if you’re playing passively and just dodging, but attacking the monster you’re fighting and playing aggressively will speed up the activation time to about a minute.

The timer will start once you get the monster’s attention and it gets aggravated, or you land the first attack even with your slinger. The timer for Latent Power is invisible, so you just have to trust it’s counting down. Once Latent Power activates, you’ll get a small note along the right side of the screen telling you it has been activated, and the Latent Power icon will appear above your health bar in the top left corner of the screen.

Once active, Latent Power will stay in effect for two minutes. A very small green circle will appear next to the Latent Power icon in the top left of the screen, indicating how much time is left, with it counting down in red numbers for the last few seconds. Once Latent Power runs out, the timer to activate it again will immediately start as long as you’re in combat.

If you leave combat either by you running away or the monster before Latent Power activates, the timer will restart the next time you enter combat.
