Every Villain In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ranked

Which villains will truly get your spidey senses tingling in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

Despite being amazing, the first game lacked significant difficulty – though the spectacle and story during battles were always there. Its DLC and Miles spin-off improved the difficulty, but Spider-Man 2 found a good balance in its difficulty modes. That said, we will talk about it all: Difficulty, spectacle, and the story behind the fight to evaluate the best confrontation in the game.

Updated on March 2, 2025, by Lucas Olah: With more and more Sony exclusives swinging their way into PC, we thought we’d take another look at Spider-Man 2’s boss fights thanks to its PC port. Whether you’re re-experiencing the adventure on your console or trying it out for the first time on PC (or maybe a second time, already, as it has been enough time to beat this game by now), let’s do a second dive in Spider-Man 2’s boss fights.

Spoilers below.

11

Mysterio

With His Own Side-Quests

Quentin Beck transforming into Mysterio with the helmet on and green fumes surrounding him.

You know a game has exceptional boss fights when the worst is still a banger as it is. Mysterio offers an excellent fight in a unique arena, providing a perfect atmosphere for a character like him. The story behind the battle and its consequences is also beautiful, and it’s nice to see villains being reformed.

The major downside here is that it’s an easy fight. You have to take him, minions, then fight multiple versions of him in the air. Just close the gap with web strikes and unleash chaos. Still, it’s pretty fun.

10

Wraith

Not Bad For Someone With No Powers

Yuri Watanabe as vigilante villain Wraith attacking Spider-Man with her scythe sling near a bonfire.

It is an honorable battle, as it should be — just you and her fighting it out. Though Wraith doesn’t have the same style as Mysterio, her fight is a meaningful moment between Peter and Yuri, putting their ideologies in their inevitable conflict, as one is against killing while the other favors killing bad people.

The fight itself is also quite challenging due to Wraith’s agility, heavy strikes that require constant parrying, and blinding attacks with sneak attacks afterward.

Have your dodge ready – she enjoys being sneaky more than Spidey does.

9

Sandman

Epic Intros Are Always Fun

Peter Parker and Miles Morales swinging into a fight with Sandman who is bigger than the surrounding buildings

While this is the easiest fight in the whole game, it is a wonderful encounter. After all, it is the very opening mission, in an epic fight revolving around a giant Sandman, where you traverse many parts of the city during the confrontation.

Don’t just swing in and hope for the best in Spider-Man 2 – take note of these combat tips.

And there’s a good reason for this fight to be easy: It’s the opening of the game! That means it’s also a tutorial, and it perfectly introduces all the basics while still creating a true show of a boss battle.

8

Scream

Gonna Need Some Couples Therapy After This

Mary Jane Watson transformed as the symbiote villain Scream by Venom's side about to face off with Peter.

Now, let’s talk about relationship issues. Though we all knew Venom would be here beforehand, we didn’t expect other symbiotes, especially Mary Jane Watson, to be one of them. As Venom attempts to ‘heal’ the world and make everyone a symbiote, MJ becomes one of the victims, and we have to save her. And by ‘save,’ we mean ‘beat her until the symbiote is out.’

The suburbs are an interesting battleground, and she uses the environment very well, with all her jumping, her attacks that require dodge, and her projectiles. The conversation during the fight with Scream, forcing MJ to go through all her problems and insecurities while Peter wishes to help her, also makes it a compelling plot point.

7

Kraven

As Venom

Venom holding Kraven by the head in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Kraven’s last stand is a meaningful moment, more so because this fight happens in a mission where we take control of Venom. The fight isn’t difficult, especially since Venom’s controls are simplified compared to the Spideys – we only use them once, so there’s that.

Still, Kraven’s mobility and ranged strikes make him a worthy opponent to ignite Venom’s hunt, and he uses a blinding trick similar to Wraith’s. This fight is the beginning of the end.

6

Lizard

Show Him Who’s The Bigger Monster

Close-up of Lizard's design in Spider-Man 2 as the villain roars at Miles.

The Lizard’s heavy strikes require even more attention, as some need to be parried while others need to be dodged, and getting them confused by acting on reflexes will just get you hit. There’s also a fun chase sequence in between fights.

With great power comes great… grinding. Here’s Spider-Man 2’s max level, plus what it takes to get there – and what comes after.

And though the Lizard – or rather, Dr. Connors – is more of a plot device, as he is the one who can help Harry, this fight is a big part of Peter’s character arc, as he slowly gets angrier and feels less remorse for the Lizard, all thanks to the symbiote’s effects.

5

Mister Negative

Hitting A Lot Harder This Time

Martin Li as Mister Negative in his Raft jumpsuit while facing off with Miles in Kraven's arena.

Mister Negative, not content with no longer being a major villain, stole a lot of spotlight with his boss fight. Jokes aside, this is one of the hardest encounters in the game, showing that the difficulty progression is working quite well.

In a three-stage fight, he uses a lot of tricks, such as powerful attacks that require specific ways of dodging – even jumping is a way now – amazing speed, and a shield that requires your venom powers to go through. It’s a vast improvement from his fight in the original game, that’s for sure.

4

Peter

The Teacher Vs. The Student

Peter with the symbiote suit fighting Miles in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

We knew this was coming, but it doesn’t make it any less epic. With Spider-Man himself turning into a monster, only Spider-Man can stop him. Peter uses a lot of combos and the abilities you tend to use, only this time against you.

His surges are extremely dangerous, but luckily, you still have the bell from the Kraven fight to use against him, just like Kraven used against you, and there’s even a fight to maintain the bell available, as he’ll web it up as soon as used.

This fight also comes with Peter finally dealing with the symbiotic suit, which is a great moment.

3

Kraven

As Peter

Speaking of the Kraven fight, we have him once more. Only this time, we fight him as Peter. This fight is a lot more intense than the Venom outing, with more stages, tricks, and minions.

He uses heavy attacks, those weird robots we can’t tell if they are canine or feline, stealth, and the bell that will constantly stun you if you don’t web it up. He shows us why he’s the best hunter, and we show him that this is not enough to stop the amazing Spider-Man.

2

Venom

As Miles

Miles fighting Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

The Venom fight is technically one big battle, with the first part being with Peter and the second with Miles. Though this part is easier than the one with Peter, this fight is still difficult simply due to how frenetic and fast Venom is, giving you very little room to breathe.

They make the fight constantly shift between grounded and air combat, and not keeping up with them is complicated. Our web is also useless, which doesn’t help – though gadgets make a lot of difference here.

1

Venom

As Peter

Peter fighting Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Going back a bit in the timeline, the showdown between Anti-Venom Peter and Venom hits all the right notes: being challenging, a perfect endgame scenario, and Venom using Harry’s thoughts for manipulation. It’s perfect.

They have multiple health bars, completely corrupt parts of the stage that force you to be on the move, and rely on symbiote minions as well, and some parts even force you to use your anti-venom strikes and surge just to wound him.
