Summary

  • Earlier today, more than 40 million users were on Steam at once.
  • This is a new record for the storefront, with more than 12 million of these users in a game at the same time.
  • This is likely thanks to the success of new games like Monster Hunter Wilds and Marvel Rivals.

Steam is having a very, very busy weekend. In fact, just hours ago, there were more than 40 million of us playing games and scrolling through the storefront at once.

To be specific, this means that Steam had 40,270,997 concurrent users earlier today. This is the most in Steam’s history, making it the new record for the most amount of users on the storefront at the same time.

Steam Just Broke Its Concurrent Player Record

The all-time peak is now 40,270,997, smashing past the 40 million milestone

Of these more than 40 million users, most of them were just going through their libraries or browsing the store for new games. 12,812,379 users were actually in-game, with the top games right now being Counter-Strike 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dota 2, and more.

Monster Hunter Wilds has likely given Steam the boost it needed to go past the 40 million mark, as this is its first weekend since it launched on Friday. Yesterday, 1,384,608 users were playing at once on PC alone, making this a huge success for Capcom, despite the widely reported performance issues that the devs are looking into.

This comes just after another successful release with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. This is still going strong on Steam, with 119,071 people playing right now, putting it in ninth on the Steam charts. That’s not bad for a single player release at all.

Then, there are all the live services that users log in to Steam to play. Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG are always in the charts, but the recent success of Marvel Rivals has added another live service into the mix, putting that comfortably in the top ten.

At the time of writing, the concurrent player figure has gone back down to 34,669,312, but surpassing 40 million for a moment is a huge milestone. With plenty of other big releases to come, we’ll have to see how much it rises throughout 2025.
