If you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to try Star Wars Outlaws, this is it. While Ubisoft’s open-world take on a galaxy, far, far away had an incredibly underwhelming launch – which our own review can attest to – it’s having a quiet resurgence on Steam. With five major title updates under its belt and a staggering half-price sale, this is the time to see if the trip around the cosmos is for you.
It’s no secret that Star Wars Outlaws was a letdown. Our own Star Wars Outlaws review even scored it just a measly 5/10, saying an “uninteresting open world and tedious stealth sections bog down what could have been the start of something special.” This is a sentiment shared by almost everyone who played it at launch, but since then, the open-world game has been on quite the improvement plan.

Since release, Ubisoft has dropped five major title updates, which combine to take aim at the game’s overall mechanics and performance. Enemy AI behavior, player stealth and combat, weapon functionality, camera controls, and a whole lot more have been vastly improved as Ubisoft attempts to rescue Outlaws.
Even with these upgrades, the Steam version of Star Wars Outlaws debuted with less than 1,000 concurrent players. Now, however, Ubisoft is selling Outlaws at its lowest-recorded price on Valve’s platform, and that has helped the numbers jump slightly. Star Wars Outlaws now has a new Steam peak of over 2,600 players thanks to the Steam sale. These numbers aren’t that high, especially when compared to the recent gargantuan launch of Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds, but they might spell a return for the game.
Ubisoft is selling Star Wars Outlaws on Steam at a 50% discount until Thursday March 13, so expect to pay $34.99 / £24.99 until then. You can find it here.
