During a Mass Outbreak event featuring red, green, and blue Pokemon, a Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player found a Shiny Poliwag that was different from normal. When the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainer engaged the Shiny Poliwag in a battle, they discovered that it was a level 100 critter and posted a video on social media as proof of the rare encounter.
Known as the Tadpole Pokemon, Poliwag’s first appearance was in Pokemon Red and Blue. Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl at level 25, and it can further evolve into either Poliwrath by using a Water Stone or Politoed if traded while holding a King’s Rock. As a Water Pokemon, Poliwag’s distinct features include the dark swirl pattern on its belly, pink lips, and a long tail fin. When it evolves, Poliwag gains arms that can be used to swim faster. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Poliwag and its evolutions can be found in the wilds of Kitakami.

During an ongoing Mass Outbreak event announced during Pokemon Day, a Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player made an astonishing discovery. A Reddit user named SchizyJed shared a video on the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit of a Shiny Poliwag they found in the Fellhorn Gorge of Kitakami. In a spot known for rarely producing level 100 Magikarp, the Shiny Poliwag that SchizyJed encountered was also a level 100 Water creature, making their find all the more extraordinary.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Player Catches Extraordinarily Rare Level 100 Shiny Poliwag
Thankfully, SchizyJed stated that they caught the level 100 Shiny Poliwag and immediately transferred it to Pokemon Home as part of a Shiny Living National Pokedex collection they are making. While Mass Outbreaks are held periodically in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the levels of each critter usually range between 10 and 65, depending on the story progress a player has made. Given that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have a reputation for performance-related issues, some bugs can also help or hinder players during normal gameplay.
In response, some trainers pointed out that Pokemon who appear in Mass Outbreaks can be affected by the level 100 Magikarp spawn data if they appear close enough. SchizyJed added that they did not know if something in the game’s code caused the Shiny Poliwag to show up at level 100. In addition to the Mass Outbreak event, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can redeem item codes for version-exclusive Rotom Phone cases. The Red, Green, and Blue Mass Outbreak event ends on Thursday, March 20, at 7:59 PM Eastern.
