Of all the great games that Atlus released last year, Metaphor: ReFantazio was arguably the one that stood out the most. This high fantasy JRPG was the first wholly new IP that the company developed and published since it released Catherine in 2011. Despite not being attached to any existing franchises, Metaphor: ReFantazio became Atlus’s fastest-selling game of all time. It surpassed the one million copies sold milestone on the day it was launched, and it ended up being one of the most nominated games at The Game Awards 2024, behind only Astro Bot and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Atlus has stated on multiple occasions that it wants Metaphor: ReFantazio to be the next pillar franchise for the company, alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. If it really wants to achieve this goal, then perhaps Atlus should spread the word about its latest game through collaborations. The company doesn’t necessarily have to put Metaphor skins in Fortnite, though, it can also do crossovers with its own franchises. A Persona collaboration with Metaphor: ReFantazio, for example, would be a very logical decision, given how similar the two franchises are from a gameplay standpoint. One perfect avenue for such a collaboration could be through Persona 5: The Phantom X, the newest game in the Persona series.

Memories of Persona 5 Strikers Live On in Metaphor: ReFantazio
Persona 5 Strikers blended its musou combat well with the tenets of Persona’s turn-based system, and Metaphor’s own action elements echo this.
Persona 5: The Phantom X is a Mobile Game That’s Currently Not Available in the West
Despite being part of an incredibly popular franchise, Persona 5: The Phantom X is a game that many may not be immediately familiar with. This is because it hasn’t been released in the West and is only available in select East Asian countries, like China and South Korea. Persona 5: The Phantom X is, as its name suggests, a spin-off of the Persona 5 subseries. It is a gacha game for mobile phones and Windows PCs, and it features an entirely new cast of characters. Unlike other Persona titles, the game is developed primarily by Black Wings Game Studio, a subsidiary of Perfect World Games.
Persona 5: The Phantom X Has Started Collaborating With Other Persona Games
Ever since Persona 5: The Phantom X was released in open beta in April 2024, there has been a lot of discussion about what the future holds for the game. During an offline event held in Shanghai on July 12, 2024, some developers at Atlus and Black Wings Game Studio shed some light on this matter. They not only confirmed that they had plans to bring Persona 5: The Phantom X to the West, they also revealed that they wanted to do crossover events in the game. The developers stated that, to begin with, they would release collaborations with other Persona games in the coming months, specifically Persona 5 Royal, Persona 3 Reload, and Persona 4 Golden, in that order.
Shortly after that interview took place, Persona 5: The Phantom X hosted its first-ever crossover event, which involved the aforementioned Persona 5 Royal. The first part of this collaboration scenario, which is being released in parts, came out in December 2024, and it added one of the members of the Phantom Thieves, Kasumi Yoshizawa, to the game as a playable character, along with a new dungeon set in a research institute.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Could Be Introduced to a New Audience With a Persona 5: The Phantom X Crossover
Atlus and Black Wings Game Studio should add a Metaphor: ReFantazio collaboration to Persona 5: The Phantom X, similar to the ongoing Persona 5 Royal one. Even if they don’t add a Metaphor-themed dungeon to the game, though, the two companies could, at the very least, give Persona 5: The Phantom X players the ability to summon Metaphor‘s characters or use some of the JRPG’s iconic weapons, such as Drakodios, in battle. Since the audience that plays gacha titles is usually different from those that play console games, a hypothetical crossover event like this could be a great way to introduce Metaphor: ReFantazio to a whole new crowd.

From the creative minds behind Persona 3, 4, and 5 comes Metaphor: ReFantazio, a unique fantasy world, where your protagonist will journey alongside his fairy companion, Gallica, to lift the curse from the kingdom’s lost prince.
