Majima’s Pirate Crew always needs more members in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and recruiting someone usually means doing a favor for them first. Winning Fights, Increasing your Pirate Rank, completing sidestories, or finding specific items are all common requirements for recruiting people to the crew.
While plenty of the recruits in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii have fairly simple requirements, you’ll often need to track down items you otherwise wouldn’t think twice about in order to add them to the roster. Surfer Jay is one such example, since he needs you to get him a “Kraken-Chan” doll as a gift for his girlfriend.

How to Find Surfer Jay
Surfer Jay can be found once Majima reaches Honolulu during Chapter 2 and starts looking for recruits. Surfer Jay can be found at the location shown on the map above, near Tropical Coco Plate Lunch. More specifically, you’ll find him next door, moping about getting so distracted surfing that his girlfriend left him behind at the beach. He wants to apologize to her, but needs a Kraken-Chan from the UFO Grabber Machine to give her as a gift. Sadly, he’s very bad at UFO Grabber Machines, so you’ll need to go get him one yourself.
Once you return with a Kraken-Chan, Surfer Jay will gladly join up with the Goro Pirates. While he has no First Mate or Squad Leader traits, he has alright stats for manning a cannon and decent defense in melee, making him useful as a cannon operator or as part of a boarding crew.
How to Get a Kraken-Chan
To get a Kraken-Chan, you’ll have to head for a UFO Catcher Machine with stuffed animals and reset it until it contains a Kraken-Chan (pictured above.) Since they’re fairly round, your best way to snag one is by positioning the claw directly above its head so it can clamp around the body of the toy.
In this example, I found Kraken-Chan in the UFO Catcher Machine at Madlantis. You can reset the contents of UFO Catcher Machines by speaking to the attendant nearby and asking them to change out the prizes, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find Kraken-Chan with a little patience. UFO Catcher Machines can be found in Madlantis, and at the Anaconda Arcade (Inside the Anaconda Shopping Center in Honolulu.)
