Summary

  • Post-credits scene hints at a possible sequel for Dragon Ball Daima with Evil Third-Eyes.
  • Toriyama’s involvement in a Daima sequel could spark criticism and conflict with Dragon Ball Super.
  • Daima contradicts some Super events, leading to fans’ disappointment with timeline inconsistencies.

Dragon Ball Daima, the last Dragon Ball story with Toriyama’s signature, recently ended. The series, which was supposed to be just a fun ride, full of adventure and new stuff for fans, actually ended up accidentally dividing fans.

With only 20 episodes, Daima is the shortest Dragon Ball anime that has ever aired, as DB series series usually lasted at least a year (over 50 episodes). Because of its brevity, many fans wonder if a Daima sequel is in the cards. The post-credits scene seems to suggest that there is more to come, but first let’s clarify what exactly this scene confirms — that is, if it confirms anything at all.

Dragon Ball Daima Ending, Explained

After months of ups and downs, Dragon Ball DAIMA has come to an end. So what ended up happening?

What Happens in the Post-Credits Scene?

While traveling back to Earth, Goku asks Glorio if they can pay a quick visit to a shopkeeper they met in Episode 4 because he is short on Senzu Beans. At that time, the Medi Bugs were introduced. These are literally bugs with medicinal value.

It is precisely because of the Medi Bugs, especially the Join Bug, which allows up to three people to perform a fusion, that many fans thought that the series would also introduce a new fusion by the end of the story.

Anyway, Glorio accepts, and they take a short break at the shop. There, the shopkeeper recognizes Goku as the boy who was shopping there earlier. Bulma, who is worried about her skin now that she is back to her older self, gets excited about Beaut Bugs, even though she doesn’t like bugs that much.

Anyway, while taking a look at what else is for sale, Panzy finds a recipient with two eyes — quite familiar eyes. The shopkeeper then explains that these are called Evil Third-Eyes, that and there used to be three of them for sale, but she sold one long ago. Then she offers to sell them at a discount price.

Is a Daima Sequel Confirmed?

The post-credits scene presents the possibility of either Gomah or a new villain somehow acquiring another Evil Third-Eye — as we can believe that there could be even more of them out there. However, it doesn’t confirm any sequels, it just leaves the space open for them. So far, no Season 2 or anything of the sort has been announced.

Potential Issues with a Daima Sequel

While many fans would welcome a Dragon Ball Daima sequel, be it a second season, a movie or whatever, a lot of criticism would likely emerge about it just after the announcement. Daima has been criticized since it was revealed that the characters would be turned into kids, even if it was known that Akira Toriyama was deeply involved in the series.

If Toriyama’s involvement wasn’t enough to keep Daima from coming under fire for its premise and development, a sequel, which couldn’t possibly have Toriyama’s signature anymore, would likely cause even more uproar among fans, especially those who didn’t like the way the series concluded, with some contradictions and without a clear connection to Super, which is supposed to take place after Daima. Dragon Ball Super fans would also likely accuse the production of trying to milk the series, especially if a Daima sequel is announced before the long-awaited Dragon Ball Super Season 2.

Since Daima takes place almost immediately after Dragon Ball Z, it should logically be set between Z and Super. However, as Daima progressed, it contradicted a few Super events.

For example, at the beginning of Super, SSJ3 is said to be Goku’s strongest form up to that point. However, in Daima he turns into SSJ4, and he confirms that he did it because of training (the scene first suggested that it could be due to Neva’s magic). Also, Vegeta has never turned into SSJ3 (or Ultra Vegeta 1, as he calls it) in Super.

Since no explanation was given to fit all these events into a single timeline, some fans felt disappointed by the lack of consistency between these series. They could still take place in the same timeline if one ignores these small contradictions, or considers that Daima retconned some events from Super. However, in an interview with Akio Iyuko, it seemed that timeline consistency was not a priority for anyone, probably not even Toriyama himself, when creating Daima.
