Avowed: 8 Best Medium Armor, Ranked
Protect yourself from attacks with these pretty good options for medium armor.
Fortunately, the Heavy armor class comes with many excellent choices that you can go for depending on your build, but, of course, some of these options are much better than their counterparts, making it essential to know which ones you should be prioritizing.

Superb Plate Armor
Unlike the Light category, the Heavy armor class has a couple of effective protective options that may not come with the special benefits that all Unique armor provides, but they are definitely worth looking into. One such example is the Superb Plate Armor, a Heavy armor that stands out the most in its category thanks to the extremely high damage reduction that it brings to the table.
Sure, it can take a relatively greater toll on your maximum stamina and essence, but considering that you are going for Heavy armor anyway, you already know that those are the trade-offs you have to live with. But the kind of protection that the Superb Plate Armor has in store remains unrivaled in the basic Heavy armor category, as its Brigandine Armor counterpart pales in comparison.

Engwithan Cuirass
Given that the majority of Heavy armor you can find during the beginning of your Avowed journey comes with very similar stats, it’s important to look at the bonuses they give you while considering your options. This is why the Engwithan Cuirass is a great piece of protective gear, as it regenerates a small portion of your health in the direst of combat situations, keeping you safe from death for a while longer.
Additionally, while most Heavy armor depletes your essence quite drastically, the Engwithan Cuirass tries to make up for it just a little by converting some of your attack damage into essence, which can come in handy at any given instance in a battle.
While the Engwithan Cuirass keeps your health and essence in check, you can complete the set and pair it up with the Engwithan Gauntlets to decrease your blocking stamina depletion as well.
6
Wayfarer’s Armor
Since movement is an important element that can turn the tide of any battle in Avowed, it is unfortunate that the majority of Heavy armor in the game tends to slow you down in combat, since the stamina depletion stats of the category are quite drastic. But fortunately, the Wayfarer’s Armor comes with an added bonus of more movement speed, which ensures that you can get out of danger as quickly as possible.
As a cherry on top, this Heavy armor also keeps your health in check, regenerating it when it goes lower than a certain amount, which makes the Wayfarer’s Armor an effective choice because of its utility in various defensive scenarios.
5
Obsidian Order Cuirass
Accompanied by basically the same defensive, depletion, and stability stats as Engwithan Cuirass and Wayfarer’s Armor, the Obsidian Order Cuirass stands out thanks to its impressive bonuses, which not only cater to you but to your companion as well. Firstly, it provides a nice buff to your overall maximum health, so there are no low-health prerequisites that its other two similar counterparts come with.
Aside from that, since your companions play a major role in helping you out in the middle of a battle, the Obsidian Order Cuirass gives their attack damage an ample boost as well, increasing their efficiency on the battlefield and making them more useful.
4
Pauper’s Plate
While the percentage of damage reduction that Pauper’s Plate brings with it is not really all that impressive, the additional damage reduction that it has on offer makes an amazing total worthy of a Heavy armor starting off in its Fine tier. Along with the protection that it provides against regular damage, Pauper’s Plate also brings some Constitution to the table, which not only increases your maximum health but also tries to protect you from poisoned and bleeding statuses.
Now that the regular damage, poison, and bleeding are taken care of, Pauper’s Plate also gives you some resistance against shock accumulation, making the Heavy armor somewhat of an all-rounder in its category.
3
Steel Garrote Plate
Despite starting off in its very first tier, the Steel Garrote Plate has more than enough damage reduction in store, and along with the kind of stability that comes with this Heavy armor, it is a piece of protective gear that should be under your consideration. Aside from that, the Steel Garrote Plate also primarily caters to your health along with some much-needed assistance on the offensive front by hitting the enemy back with half of the damage that you get hit with.
The only prerequisite for that is that the incoming damage has to be more than a quarter of your maximum health, which is also something that the Steel Garrote Plate helps you with, as it gives you some Constitution as well.
2
Death Knight Armor
If you are someone who likes to be rewarded for going head-first into a battle and taking damage, then the Death Knight Armor has got you covered, as it gives you the chance to restore some of your maximum health on the condition that you take some initial hits. It also provides you with plenty of resistance against frost accumulation, making it perfect for you if you prefer staying on the offensive front without caring too much about the defensive side of things.
The best part is that the Death Knight Armor starts off in its second tier, which can then be upgraded as required to make it an even better force to be reckoned with on the battlefield as you devour your enemies.
Since your frost accumulation resistance is already taken care of by the Death Knight Armor, you can also wear the set’s Gloves to increase your own frost damage.
1
Skald’s Brigandine
Heavy armor that not only provides amazing protection against damage but also comes with high stability and relatively lower stamina and essence depletion works wonders, especially when you are facing tougher foes late in Avowed, making Skald’s Brigandine the perfect choice to equip. Along with all of that, Skald’s Brigandine also ensures that your game keeps going even if your companion drowns, regenerating your health to help you out.
Additionally, despite taking a chunk out of your maximum stamina, Skald’s Brigandine pays you back by increasing the rate of your stamina regeneration quite significantly. Since it’s still in its Exceptional tier when it starts off, you can upgrade it to Superb or Legendary to enhance its utility even further.
