With so many upgrade trees for each weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll need a lot of base materials to craft a few weapons that will later start branching out into very different ones. While many tree upgrades for a weapon are tied to monster drops, the base weapon upgrades are usually tied to materials found through exploration.

A lot of base weapons can be upgraded into a tier two version, and this will always require more rare materials than the ones used to initially craft the weapon. A common tier-two resource players will need a lot of is Machalite Ore, which can be found by mining Outcrops. Here’s how to farm some Machalite easily in Monster Hunter Wilds.

There are many weapon choices to consider in Monster Hunter Wilds, and they each differ significantly.

How To Get Machalite Ore In Monster Hunter Wilds

Machalite Ore is a fairly common resource obtained by interacting with Mining Outcrops throughout the first few regions of the game. Since it’s not the most basic mining resource you can get, your odds of getting some from an Outcrop will increase as you progress through the main story and unlock new regions to mine in.

While you do have to mine an outcrop before looting it, you don’t need any tools to do so as your character always has a pickaxe.

After you mine an Outcrop, a fifteen-minute real-world timer will start before that outcrop can be mined again. There’s also a chance of your Palico mining and getting one item from an Outcrop when you pass by one closely. That being said, it’s best for you to farm these outcrops yourself as there can usually be three or four materials to get from an outcrop and your Palico will only get one.

Best Machalite Ore Farming Spots In Monster Hunter Wilds

The best region to farm Machalite Ore overall is the Oilwell Basin since it has the best chances for an Outcrop to drop Machalite instead of the resource of a higher or lower tier. That being said, there are only a few outcrops to find and mine in this region, so it’s best to hit the following areas to maximize time spent and Machalite output:

Oilwell Basin – Area 6
Scarlet Forest – Areas 13 & 8

While the Scarlet Forest has a lower drop rate of Machalite Ore from each outcrop, there are a lot more outcrops in each area so your total output when farming them all has a good chance of outpacing what you’ll find in the Basin.
