Most of all the upgrade materials you need for specific trees of a weapon will come from a single monster. After getting the tier one upgrades for a monster-specific tree, the next upgrade may require you to farm that same monster again but at a higher rank, while other times you’ll need to find a different resource.

For those looking to upgrade weapons and give them the fire affinity, you may find yourself in need of Firestone, especially for tier-two upgrades on a lot of fire weapons. Here’s how to reliably farm Firestone in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Where To Farm Firestone In Monster Hunter Wilds

Firestone has a chance of dropping every time you mine a Mining Outcrop in Oilwell Basin. Oilwell Basin is the third region in the game and you’ll travel there during Chapter 2-1 of the main story. Once here, the best you can do is interact with every Mining Outcrop you can and hope one drops a Firestone, though the overall rate is decent and you’ll get one at about every other outcrop.

Once you interact with an outcrop and mine it, you’ll be able to interact with it three or four times to get a few items, with each one having a chance of being a Firestone. Mining Outcrops do need to be interacted with before you can loot them, so you won’t be able to ride by on your Seikret and farm them from a distance with your Slinger. Once you find a few Outcrop locations, they will permanently be marked on your map, and you can visit them every fifteen real-world minutes to farm that outcrop again. Looting a Mining Outcrop in this region may also give you the following minerals also used in upgrading weapons:

  • Machalite Ore
  • Dragonite Ore

Which Areas Have Mining Outcrops In Oilwell Basin In Monster Hunter Wilds

Oilwell Basin has a few early locations where you can find Mining Outcrops even on your first visit to the region:

  • 1 in Area 7
  • 1 in Area 8
  • 2 in Area 4

While there aren’t many, your odds of getting enough Firestone from just one trip around the area is very good, especially using the Seikret’s auto-run to get around quickly. There’s also a chance your Palico goes and mines an Outcrop for just one item every time you pass by, so there’s a good chance you’ll get a Firestone without even doing anything.
