As each armor category in Avowed comes with its own set of perks depending on the playstyle that you are going for, it can be difficult to choose which piece of protective gear you should wear, given the many options that Obsidian Entertainment provides you with. For example, if you are someone who likes to move around in battle and wants to ensure that you do not run out of stamina, then the Light Armor category has plenty of choices available.
But naturally, some of the armor in the Light category stands out thanks to the wide variety of benefits that it brings to the table, making it crucial to know which ones you should be aiming to acquire.
Unlike the Medium category, the basic Light armor found in Avowed isn’t really worth exploring, so it’s better to just try and look for Unique Light armor from the beginning.

Many-Hued Doublet
Since the majority of the Light armor that you will find early in Avowed does not necessarily provide the best protection against incoming threats, the Many-Hued Doublet takes things up a notch with one of its additional bonuses. Aside from providing general and additional damage reduction, this unique armor also considerably decreases the damage that you might get hit with through elemental attacks, such as Fire, Shock, and Frost.
It also does not deplete your essence too much, and, combined with its second benefit of giving a buff to your health restoration, it is one of the most effective pieces of Light armor that you can acquire during the beginning of your Living Lands journey.

Animancer’s Swallowtail
Considering that every single armor in Avowed, regardless of the weight class that it belongs to, has a depleting effect on your essence, wearing one that comes with an increase to your maximum essence can go a long way in battle. This becomes especially useful when you are going for a Wizard build, as you will have to rely on your special abilities a lot more than other classes in the game.
The Animancer’s Swallowtail does that and more, as it also increases your carry capacity so you can have more items on hand, along with providing considerable protection against incoming damage.

Wildwalker Armor
When you have armor that even starts in its Legendary tier, you know you are in for something special on the defensive front, as the damage reduction, along with the additional damage reductio,n add up to protect you in many drastic scenarios. In addition to that, its first special bonus ensures that whatever Elemental Status you receive gets applied to all enemies surrounding you.

But that is not all, as the Wildwalker Armor also increases your Fire, Frost, and Shock Accumulation, catering to both your offensive and defensive fronts simultaneously and making it protective gear that should be considered late in the game.

Arcanist’s Gambeson
On a surface level, it may not seem like the Arcanist’s Gambeson is the most effective Light armor that you can find in Avowed, but even at its lowest possible tier, its bonuses more than make up for its lack of general defensive abilities. Firstly, it gives a nice boost to your area of effect damage, giving you ample assistance while you are taking on multiple enemies at once.
However, the best part is that while it is armor’s nature to deplete away your essence, the Arcanist’s Gambeson cancels that loss by providing the same boost to it. Plus, it does not hurt your stamina bar too much either, so if you want to keep moving around the battlefield and use your abilities to your heart’s content, the Arcanist’s Gambeson armor is the one for you.
If you’re not satisfied with the essence buffs from the Arcanist’s Gambeson armor, you can simply complete the set and increase them even further with the Arcanist’s Gloves.

Blackwing Armor
If you are someone who does not like to go headfirst into a confrontation but would rather handle things quietly, the Blackwing Armor has got you covered, as it prioritizes stealth over everything else. One of its special bonuses grants a massive buff to the damage that your stealth attacks inflict on the enemy, encouraging you to take it slow as you pick the enemy forces apart one by one.
To add even more incentive to your stealth playthrough, the Blackwing Armor also significantly increases your speed as you move around while crouching, which is why its relatively lower damage reduction stats do not feel like the worst trade-off.

Warmage’s Robe
Although many of the armor pieces that you find in the middle section of Avowed come with productive defensive stats, the Warmage’s Robe brings even more defense to the table if you are not satisfied with the base damage reduction of its other counterparts. Its main special bonus gives you an extra defensive layer by providing more damage and additional damage reduction on top of its initial stats, so you can rest assured knowing that you have a lot of protection in battle.
The cherry on top is that it also increases the speed at which you cast your abilities during combat, and since it does not hurt your maximum essence too drastically either, the Warmage’s Robe serves as a balanced armor combination on the battlefield.

Trickster’s Cuirass
Your stamina and essence are two important elements that can make or break any encounter in Avowed, and unfortunately, the majority of armor pieces available in the game hinder both of those aspects in one way or another. However, the Trickster’s Cuirass tries to make up for the standard losses in stamina and essence with its bonuses, firstly giving a considerable buff to your movement speed while you are crouching.
Now that the stamina side of things is covered, its second bonus provides a high boost to your maximum essence, and just in case these two bonuses are not enough, its basic defensive stats are also quite impressive.

Robes Of Surpassing Brilliance
If you liked the Arcanist’s Gambeson, you will love the Robes of Surpassing Brilliance, as it takes almost everything that is great about the former and makes it a lot better, doubling the maximum essence boost that you used to get, for starters. It also reduces the depletion of your maximum essence, truly living up to its Light armor category, although it does hurt your stamina a little more than it arguably should.
However, with a lot of damage reduction on offer and the choice to upgrade it past its starting Exceptional tier, combined with a substantial increase to your area of effect damage, the Robes of Surpassing Brilliance have the potential to lead you across the finish line.
