RDR2: Most Evil Gangs, Ranked

The age of outlaws and gangs may be dying out by 1899, but Red Dead Redemption 2 still presents a fair amount of them in the tamed West, currently on the run from Pinkertons, lawmen, bounty hunters, and even other gangs. There aren’t many gangs in Red Dead Redemption 2, but those that remain are pretty sinister and evil in nature.

Van der Linde Gang

A Gang That Rejects Society and Laws for Their Own Code and Freedom

  • Leader: Dutch Van der Linde
  • Most Evil Act: A botched robbery that resulted in the deaths of innocent people
  • Notable Members: Hosea Matthews, Arthur Morgan, John Marston

Dutch Van der Linde is the leader of the Van der Linde gang, and for years, they felt more like a band of Robin Hood-inspired outlaws than the twisted scum that leeches off of an evolving West. The Van der Linde gang was more focused on their freedoms than they were ever focused on hurting people, but that doesn’t mean that their robberies wouldn’t lack a multitude of casualties, from lawmen to bystanders.

Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t work out well for the Van der Linde gang’s plans, but what exactly happens to each of the gang’s members?

While the Van der Linde gang doesn’t have a sinister streak within them to hurt innocent people, they are still a band of outlaws that will rob and kill folk who they deem robbable and killable, but they still have their own moral code that makes them one of the more ethical gangs.

6

Laramie Gang

A Weaker Gang Only Interested in Being Hired Muscle

  • Leader: Unnamed
  • Most Evil Act: Threatened and intimidated ranchers and farmers for their land
  • Notable Members: Bart Cavanaugh

Coming across the Laramie Gang in the wild, most will just be subjected to some abusive words and tobacco spit rather than any serious threat that involves a gun against their forehead. The Laramie Gang is a group of bullies that will threaten and beat those who do not give them what they want, which is usually dependent on whatever their paid client has asked of them, but that business is usually violent and lacks anything nice, like fishing.

The Laramie Gang are thugs opposed to outlaws and killers, and while some members might indulge in a robbery or two, the gang is relatively small and unskilled which makes them a little threat across the states that they appear in.

5

Del Lobo Gang

Outlaws of Mexicans That Will Not Hesitate to Steal, Fight, and Kill

  • Leaders: Alfred Montez, Esteban Cortez, Alfredo Montez
  • Most Evil Act: A slue of robberies and killings across the West
  • Notable Members: Flaco Hernandez, Ramon Cortez

The Del Lobo Gang is mainly focused on self-survival, and they do so through a multitude of robberies and killings. Whereas the Van der Linde gang often steals to survive, the Del Lobo Gang steals from greed and kills for fun. It’s a ruthless band of sadists that will kill lawmen and stagecoach drivers with little remorse.

The Del Lobo Gang will even threaten the sick town of Armadillo in order to rescue one of their own, so there is a sense of loyalty within the gang, and their homestead of Thieves Landing shows that this gang isn’t to trifle with without a good amount of backup and guts.

4

O’Driscoll Boys

A Large Group of Sadistic and Unruling Outlaws

  • Leader: Colm O’Driscoll
  • Most Evil Act: Threatened and intimidated ranchers and farmers for their land
  • Notable Members: Kieran Duffy (formerly)

The O’Driscoll Boys are a foolish gang, comprised of a multitude of unnamed faces that can fire a gun and ride a horse. Their leader, Colm O’Driscoll, cares not for the loyalty and names of his men, but the strength in their numbers, which is why the gang is so scattered and hostile because they truly have no real leadership in their ranks over than the recognition of their green scarfs and ties.

There are 14 iconic horses owned by the individual members of the Van der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption 2, but which is the best horse to saddle?

The O’Driscoll Boys are unruly in nature, and their brash youthfulness often sees them involved with some terrible crimes. Whether it’s the murder and perhaps worse crimes against Sadie Adler and her husband, or simply terrorizing folk in small towns, these Van der Linde gang rivals are interested in the life of the outlaw and nothing else.

3

Lemoyne Raiders

Confederate Fanatics That Desire a Deeply Racist Independent State

  • Leader: Lindsey Wofford
  • Most Evil Act: A string of murders of journalists, politicians, and lawmen throughout Lemoyne
  • Notable Members: Camille de Millemont

The Lemoyne Raiders are an ignorant bunch that ride throughout Lemoyne, reminiscing on the pre-Civil War days when they could own slaves and just genuinely be awful people. The Lemoyne Raiders may say that they fight for freedom by wanting independence from the United States of America, but they hold no real reasons other than racist remarks.

The Lemoyne Raiders are a band of killers who will simply kill anyone that they deem a threat to their way of life, and their nationalism has seen many underserved murders throughout the state of Lemoyne just because they’re not smart enough to realize how the world works.

2

Murfree Brood

A Group of Sadistic Killers Who Lurk in Roanoke Ridge

  • Leader: Unknown
  • Most Evil Act: Killing and robbing anyone who comes onto what they declare their land
  • Notable Members: Unknown

The Murfree Brood are a brutal bunch of inbred killers who stalk Roanoke Ridge in New Hanover, and they hate civilization as much as the next outlaw. Except, the Murfree Brood are yokels who will only stick to the hills and forests that they deem as their own land, and will kill anyone who enters them. Camp in Roanoke Ridge at your own peril, as the Murfree Brood will find you, rob you, and most definitely kill you.

Even the treatment of animals is poor in the Murfree Brood, and their horses are often beaten, scrawny, and bloodied. Men, women, and children are not safe in the forests that the Murfree Brood claim as their territory, and may God help whoever they capture.

1

Skinner Brothers

Ruthless Torturers and Killers With No Limits

  • Leader: The Three Skinner Brothers
  • Most Evil Act: Scalping and dismembering innocent folk across West Elizabeth and Ambarino
  • Notable Members: Elias Green, Otis Skinner

The Skinner Brothers only want one thing: mayhem. The Skinner Brothers do not care for political affiliation or money, and they seek only the dismantling of those tamed to society through their ruthless and untargeted attacks. This group of killers will hunt anyone down, regardless of who they are, just so that they can shoot them, stab them, burn them, scalp them, or do whatever they feel like doing at the moment.

The reason the Skinner Brothers are the most ruthless of all RDR2 gangs is because they have no care for money or notoriety, they just love to kill and torture because it’s what they want to do. They’re nomads who have civilization and will brutalize men and women equally in a pursuit to make sense of a savage world.
