Netflix's Wednesday Season 2 Needs A Positive Tyler Storyline

Summary

  • Tyler Galpin revealed as Hyde Monster in “Wednesday” Season 1, but Season 2 should make him a positive character.
  • Fans speculate on Tyler’s future in Wednesday Season 2; hope for redemption and resolution with Wednesday Addams.
  • Showrunners confirm Tyler’s return to “Wednesday” Season 2, hint at his storyline; new villains expected.

Throughout Wednesday season 1, the Hyde Monster is a dark and haunting presence, and no one is sure who they could be. I was just as surprised as other fans when the hit Netflix series revealed Tyler Galpin as the Hyde Monster, especially since he and Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) have such a close friendship.

Hunter Doohan is coming back to portray his compelling character again in Wednesday season 2, and after seeing Tyler at Willow Hill in a brief teaser, I’m wondering how big his role is going to be. Even though he was the biggest villain of the first season, I think Tyler’s Wednesday season 2 role should be much different.

Wednesday Season 2 Should Make Tyler Galpin A Positive Character

Tyler looking serious in Wednesday

I’ve enjoyed reading what other fans think Tyler Galpin’s storyline should be in Wednesday season 2, from hoping to learn more about his family backstory to wondering if he’s going to be the villain again. However, I think Tyler should be a good, kind character in the second season, and I want him to move on from his season 1 villain plotline.

Although the sneak peek of Tyler at Willow Hill suggests he’s locked up because he’s violent and dangerous, I think Tyler is an inherently nice person who doesn’t mean to hurt anyone. I agree with Jenna Ortega’s comments about the show’s love triangle and I don’t want Tyler and Wednesday Addams to date in Wednesday season 2. But after watching the two characters become friendly in the first season, I think Tyler is genuine. He seems to truly care about Wednesday and seems torn about his dark monster alter ego. It would be a shame if that seemed to be a lie and if he was revealed as 100 percent evil.

I’m hoping that Tyler will escape Willow Hill and show up at Wednesday’s boarding school Nevermore Academy to apologize for the harm he caused and the worry he caused her. Although Wednesday might pretend to be a lone wolf who doesn’t need anyone, I think realizing Tyler was the Hyde Monster was upsetting and tough for her. It would be cool to see the two have a serious conversation about whether their friendship can move forward after this big reveal.

I think Wednesday season 2 needs to introduce a new villain other than Tyler, and Wednesday should be shocked by her stalker’s identity. This will make for a more thrilling reveal. It would be dull and anti-climatic if Tyler was the one who was spying on Wednesday, and since he has been at Willow Hill, it also might not make much sense.

Although it seems unlikely that the students and teachers of Nevermore Academy, along with the residents of the nearby town Jericho, will welcome Tyler with open arms, I do wonder if Wednesday can convince other characters to treat him better. At the very least, it would be fun if the hilarious Addams Family took Tyler under their wing. After all, they’re outcasts and rebels who are used to being judged, and it would seem logical for them to befreind him the way that Wednesday did.

What Did The Wednesday Showrunners Say About Tyler?

Tyler and Wednesday staring at each other in Wednesday

The Wednesday co-creators and showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough have mentioned Tyler Galpin in several interviews since, of course, he’s a significant part of the first season. They talked to Variety about Tyler coming back for Wednesday season 2. Gough said:

“Yeah. Absolutely. He’s out there. That’s what we wanted to convey.”

The showrunners also gave an interview to IndieWire and Millar talked about the big reveal of Tyler being the Hyde Monster. He said:

“We always thought that it was so obvious that Christina was the [villain] and that Tyler (Hunter Doohan) was the monster. It just seemed like ‘Of course! We knew it!’ But it was probably one of the most gratifying things about the show that a lot of people didn’t.”

Although fans know that some characters aren’t coming back for Wednesday season 2, it’s great news that viewers will get the chance to follow up with Tyler. While it remains to be seen if Tyler will be good, evil, or a mix of both, I think it’s going to be another fun and entertaining season.
