  • New details have been reported about an incident on the set of Beast Games.
  • A crew member was left fearing for his life after an accident on set, and is still unable to use his left arm as he did before.
  • He says that producers offered him $1,000 in gift vouchers as support while he was recovering.

Beast Games, a game show that content creator MrBeast created in collaboration with Amazon, has been controversial since its inception. Labelled “dystopian” when it premiered last December, the Squid Game-inspired show saw 1,000 contestants compete in various challenges to win prizes, with the winner walking away with $10 million.

Poor reviews were the least of the show’s worries. Before its premiere, contestants sued both MrBeast and Amazon over the conditions on the show, with claims of sexual harassment on set and a hospitalisation. This lawsuit is ongoing, set to continue this month.

Beast Game Is Where All Of Content Creation Has Been Heading

The best idea is always somebody else’s.

Now, a report from Business Insider sheds some more light on the behind-the-scenes of Beast Games. Here, a crew member referred to as Sam shares how an accident on set left him hospitalised, and still unable to use his left arm. While in the hospital, he says that an executive producer gave him an envelope containing $1,000 worth of DoorDash and Uber gift cards, and was left “underwhelmed” by the support he was offered.

Someone described as being close to the production claims that this was the support Sam requested, and other offers were made. However, Sam insists that he can’t recall asking for these gift cards. He also describes the accident as “preventable”, adding to concerns about the safety of the crew and contestants on set.

The incident is said to have occurred while Sam was disassembling a set. Unbeknownst to him, other workers were dissembling set pieces above him, and part of one had fallen and “sliced” his shoulder. A witness recalls Sam saying “I don’t want to die,” while they waited for an ambulance, and he would go on to spend eight days in hospital. He says he is still undergoing physical therapy.

“I still can’t use my left arm like I was able to,” he told Business Insider. “At the moment, I can only lift maybe 2 pounds with it. I’m working with physio to hopefully get it back to normal. I lost my spleen, so I’m also immunocompromised.”

Ontario’s labour ministry is still investigating the incident. Sam says that he wants MrBeast to take accountability for the safety concerns on the set of Beast Games. The lawsuit between MrBeast, Amazon, and anonymous contenders on the show is ongoing.
