How To Poison Monsters In Monster Hunter Wilds
There are a few tools at your disposal that you can craft and use in battle to poison a monster:
Item Name |
Crafting Recipe |
How It Works |
---|---|---|
Poison Smoke Bomb |
Smokenut + Toadstool |
Using it will throw the smoke bomb at your feet, creating a small cloud that will poison a monster that stands inside the cloud. |
Poisoned Meat |
Raw Meat + Toadstool |
Drop it on the ground to have a non-aggravated monster eat it and get poised. |
Poison Ammo |
Normal Ammo + Toadstool |
Shoot a monster with a few poisoned ammo shots from a bowgun to inflict poison. |
No matter what method you choose, each of these will temporarily poison the monster and deal damage over time. Arguably, the Poison Smoke Bombs are your best option since they don’t rely on you using a specific weapon, and they can be used in the heat of battle.
There are also environmental ways to inflict poison, such as interacting with a Poisoncup in the Forest. Interacting with these plants will spew a small poison cloud if you’re able to lure a monster to where it is, and it doesn’t require any materials on your end to use.

Monster Hunter Wilds: How to Fish
Fishing might not make sense at first in Monster Hunter Wilds, but it does work how you’d expect.
Toadstool is the most important item you’ll need when trying to poison a monster, and it isn’t incredibly common. The best place to farm Toadstool is in the forest, and on the map, it will appear as a purple mushroom icon. These items have a set spawn rate and location, and will always be at the same spot when you come back. After harvesting Toadstool, it will regrow after a few real-world minutes. You can check the exact time until a Toadstool batch regrows by hovering over its icon on the map. Once you located Toadstool on the map, mount your Seikret and drop a waypoint on the Toadstool to have your bird automatically run to that location, letting you handle other things while traveling.
