Summary

  • Marvel has revealed details about its first-ever print Jeff The Land Shark comic series.
  • The limited series will comprise five issues and be released this June.
  • It will feature Jeff chasing a shadow version of himself that escapes through the floor.

There are 37 playable characters in Marvel Rivals right now – with a lot more to come – but one of them has stood out above all others as the breakout star of the hero shooter – Jeff the Land Shark. Jeff’s meteoric rise thanks to Rivals has already earned quite a bit of his own merch, and this summer, the little Land Shark will occupy the lead role in a print Marvel comic for the first time.

Marvel revealed the aptly-named Jeff The Land Shark this week, confirming that the five-issue limited series will be landing in comic book stores this June. While it isn’t technically the first time Jeff has been the lead in a Marvel series – that honor goes to the digital-only Infinity Comic, It’s Jeff – it will be the first time Marvel bosses have deemed Jeff notable enough that he might be the reason superhero fans pick up a printed comic book.

Marvel Rivals isn’t even two months old yet Jeff is already about to get a Youtooz figure.

Speaking of the shark’s Infinity Comic, its co-creator Kelly Thompson is also the mind behind the Jeff The Land Shark series coming this summer, ensuring the someone at Marvel responsible for Jeff’s biggest outing yet is someone who knows the character better than anyone else. Thompson has collaborated with artist Tokitokoro on the series. If that name sounds familiar, and the art style does too, that might be because Tokitokoro is the same artist who created the cover for Marvel’s limited Rivals series.

Marvel Rivals Has Worked Wonders For The Land Shark’s Notoriety

Unlike the Rivals’ comparison comics, Jeff’s upcoming adventure doesn’t appear to have the same backdrop as the game. That said, the two pieces of artwork we’ve been shown from Jeff’s comic so far exclusively feature characters currently on the Rivals roster. Cloak & Dagger, Spider-Man, and Mister Fantastic alongside Invisible Woman are all in there.

Since Jeff has shot to fame thanks to Marvel Rivals, it makes sense for his supporting cast to be characters from the game too, even if his comic isn’t going to be set in the same multiverse. As for what Jeff will be up to across his five issues, the little Land Shark is faced with a shadow version of himself and, seemingly with the help of various other Marvel heroes, his quest is to stop Shadow Jeff from wreaking havoc after the darker shark escapes into the floor.

Even though Marvel Rivals hasn’t even turned three months old yet, there’s already official merch out there. The game got its first four Funko Pops last month, but Jeff isn’t among them. The shark does technically already have a Pop figure though since there’s a Deadpool Funko that pre-dates Rivals in which the shark is trying to eat The Merc With A Mouth.
