Friedrich comes in two varieties in Civilization 7, and Friedrich, Oblique follows a more mililitaristic slant than his Baroque alter ego. If you’re planning to play as Oblique, you’ll be marrying that military slant to a thirst for the scientific. It’s a good blend, and it can pay dividends if you do it just right.

Friedrich, Oblique Leader Overview

How Do Friedrich’s Attributes Work?
At first glance, Friedrich, Oblique’s Attributes might not seem like much to write home about. And, indeed, it probably doesn’t number among the most impressive in the lineup. But it’s still more solid than it may appear. After all, you’ll need Science buildings in order to beeline military techs.
- Science Begets Domination – Any Leader who earns free Military Units at a rapid clip has a pretty clear strategy in place, but as we’ve mentioned, Friedrich, Oblique gains a lovely synergy in his bid to earn new unit upgrades through Science Buildings.
- Declare War Whenever It Suits You – Unlike Leaders such as Ashoka, World Conqueror, who function best when Formal Wars are declared on them, you should never feel boxed-in here. Fight your foes when you’re ready, preferably once you’ve amassed a tremendous number of Infantry.
What Civ Works Best With Friedrich, Oblique?
Friedrich, Oblique has a pretty healthy mix of possibilities. His relatively slim Leader Abilities might make it seem otherwise, but the truth is, he’ll gain notable boosts from any civs with Military or Scientific bonuses.
Still, you do want a civ that caters to his military might above all.

Persia |
Persia’s Immortals are arguably the best Infantry unit in Antiquity, and you’ll gain a +3 Combat Strength for Infantry when attacking. Very nice for Friedrich, indeed. The 30 percent Production boost to construcing the Gate of All Nations Wonder nets you +2 War Support by default in any conflict, which helps mitigate negative side effects from all those wars you may well be declaring on your enemies. |
