Players are not just able to cook mouth-watering meals in Monster Hunter Wilds, they are encouraged to. Cooking and eating meals will give players massive buffs that can help them overcome a particularly daunting foe. Each monster is different, and players might have more trouble with some monsters compared to others.
This means they can put together a meal focusing on damage to speed things along for some hunts and a different meal to bolster their defenses for hunts they are falling short of completing. Players can also find what they need in the game by looking on the map for item locations and in their field guide for drops.

There are a lot of ways to upgrade weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds; here’s how to do it and how it works.
How to Use the Portable Grill in Monster Hunter Wilds
Players will be able to break out their Portable Grill to ensure they are at their best before heading into a potential hunt. They can access this item through the same quick menu as their Fishing Rod and Hunting Knife. Once they set up to start cooking, all of their options may be grayed out. This is because players will need to meet 2 conditions before they can get started.
Players will need to have some raw meat. They can obtain this by hunting nearby creatures, such as herbivores.
If players have filled their Item Pouches, they will have no space to put their grilled meat. It is best to leave some space in the item pouch, so players can always have somewhere to put items they get while out in the fields. Grilling meat is an artform, and it takes practice to ensure players grill the perfect steak.
Ingredient Effects in Monster Hunter Wilds
Players will encounter many different ingredients throughout the game. These come in 3 categories. Rations, Additional Ingredients, and Finishing Touches. This is a very streamlined approach that lets players make meals that will provide buffs that work the way they want. The game can recommend meals for the players, but staying in control of your meals will help manage your ingredients and cater to your goals better.
Rations
Rations are the most important ingredients, as they set the stage for the kind of meal you will be making. There are 3 kinds of Ration types. Meat, Fish, and Veggies. All of these choices will give a boost to Health and Stamina. Meat dishes will also give a boost to Attack, while Fish will give a boost to Defense. Veggies will also give a minor boost to defense, but couple this with Elemental Resistances.
Additional Ingredients
All Additional Ingredients will extend how long the buff from eating a meal will be. This extended duration can be seen under Effect Duration. Each of these ingredients comes with their own Food Skills. Looking at the bottom of the screen, it will give a description of the ingredients as well as explain what its Food Skill will do. Players that take several hits in battle may want to use Kunafa Cheese for its Defender Meal (Lo) Food Skill.
Finishing Touches
All Finishing Touches will provide players with some extra Elemental Resistance, along with a second Food Skill. This means the best results will come from players finding ingredients that synergize for the hunt they are about to undergo. So reading up on each ingredient’s Food Skill can be highly beneficial.
